Anybody see him playing on ESPN the other night getting dominated? It was nice to see if he wants to go to Bama. Its damn near impossible to find any info on this game, like nobody wants to acknowledge the smack down: "The Panthers, who were ranked 11th in the first poll, dropped out of the top 25 after losing to Manatee, 48-10, Friday at Joe Kinnan Field at Hawkins Stadium in a game televised nationally on ESPN." and a story in USA Today: Friday night Super 25 roundup: Manatee pummels Plant
I watched the game because of Ely. The first play he threw a 5 yard swing pass to that Fla State running back commit and that kid took it the distance. So he got 70 yards of passing for a 5 yard RB Swing pass. So I know most will say "Well since he is Bama you think he is nothing" no really, maybe he is something. But what I saw he seemed smallish, and average and the only TD they scored he had nothing to do with it really. I could have completed that pass. Saban has a great eye for Talent so he knows more than I will ever know. But I have to admit I watched that game and I was like "Meh....."
Well, it should also be noted that he was injured on the second series, and didn't come back in until after halftime. His mobility was very limited, (ankle injury, heavily wrapped), and I didn't expect much from him after that. Good thing, because he didn't do much. A BUNCH of his passes were batted at the line, likely due to his lack of height. But to blame that loss solely on Ely isn't accurate. Manatee's RB was incredible, and last I checked, Ely doesn't play defense. I watched most of the game, and Plant's defense just could do NOTHING with that guy. If I was Saban, I'd be checking that guy out...because AU is. He's currently uncommitted. I can't recall his name because I'm getting friggin' old.
I know this doesnt mean much...but that swing pass wasnt to Wilder "the FSU recruit"...it was to their #1 WR. But, Wilder did have a nice block on the play.
