4* QB out of Tampa's Plant HS where he is succeeding Aaron Murry and Robert Marve. Seems to be gaining some steam after strong showings on the camp circuit. Won top overall QB awards at the Bama Nike Camp and Elite 11 QB camp. Just received a LSU offer.

Holds offers from Arizona St., FIU, Wake, Vandy, UCF, Michigan St., Iowa St. and Florida Atlantic.

Not too long ago he said he wanted to commit before the season started.

Ya know, everybody wants the 6' 4" 230 pounder with the cannon. Maybe Drew Brees will bring folks back to a different view, good decision making and ACCURACY is where its really at. Just a thought looking at his size, not too big.

However, he is taller than both Murray and Marve and both of them are fighting for starting spots this year.

I don't think size is all that important in college football. For example, doug flutie and that Todd Reecing (sp?) they were both 5'11 and enjoyed college careers. However, in the NFL the scouts do like size, but QBs like brees mentioned above are short, but have the traits that allow them to succeed and be elite. Colt McCoy was also short, and he was successful in college.

If he's really 6'1 he has adequate height.

Bhelm, I remember you mentioning to keep an eye on Ely a few weeks back as far as the qb we might be taking in this class. There's been a lot of articles about him in the last couple of days about him waiting on a Florida offer with his teammate as well as one about him going visit FSU. Its giving me a sense he may not want to leave home. Do you know how the staff feels about getting him?

He is a guy who LSU has high on our board and may be the top guy left on our board now that most of the OOS QBs we were after have committed elsewhere. LSU will likely get a visit from him sometime soon but we will still have to fight off the home state and surrounding areas. UF is not looking like an option for him given they have a commitment from Jeff Driskle. Miami has Bridgewater.

Well he made it to campus today.:) Not sure how it went yet but getting him in was the 1st step because his decision will come sometime this summer. Visiting Ole Miss tomorrow and ND next week.

BTW, FSU picked up a QB this week as well so if he stays home he would be coming in with at least one other QB as it stands now.

If he is a good college prospect here's hoping we get him because it seems getting a top ranked QB to come to LSU is just not happening lately. Can't be the coaches can it?? I mean we got several new coaches this year maybe they can change things in that area..

Mainly due to the lack of top QB prospects in the state of LA and surrounding areas. That much harder to nab a guy when home schools and programs are far closer than Baton Rouge. Only 2 states around LA of late has really produced top talent and that is Texas and maybe Arkansas on a much smaller scale.
