Re: DT Quentin Thomas Commits!!! The guys that know recruiting tell me that star gazing is an inexact science that gets more accurate when senior seasons are completed and film gets evaluated. I was surprised by the commit because things are real slow and he must have read the handwriting on the wall about national recruits who have an early interest in LSU so he decided to cash in on his "commitable" offer before someone else from outside the state commits. To me the big question is not how Thomas is rated by scout and rivals so much as when will Mickey Johnson realize the same thing and commit. Another question I have is what really happened with Johnson's teammate Houston Bates and does it affect Johnson's thinking. I have kids who are classmates with both of them from St Pauls and from them, I haven't heard anything so I really am wondering.
Re: DT Quentin Thomas Commits!!! Tyrann Matthieu was not even rated when LSU got his commit last year. He was a 4* by the time signing day came along. Let's see what happens. I know a lot of folks don't trust the staff, but they wouldn't offer someone that early if they didn't know it was worth it.
Re: DT Quentin Thomas Commits!!! By no means questioning the staff, just like to hear the insight of what other folks see or hear about the recruit. We have all seen the 2* become the start and the 5* not making it happen. Not one of those guys spittin on the decision just curios....:geaux:

Re: DT Quentin Thomas Commits!!! Rankings really not out yet. Commits are coming earlier and earlier and rankings have not caught up yet. Rivals has no rankings or stars out yet and Scout has released ranking for a little over 200 prospects. A 1* rating simply means not evaluated yet. Which is not surprising given he does not have more than 3 minutes of film out as of now. I have Thomas as the #2 DT in the state behind Freak and ahead of Mickey but not by much. He has a great build and can easily get up to 300 without losing his athleticism. His body is comparable to Brockers but with a larger wing span. Thomas is quick off the ball/explosive as well. Brick Haley has been all over him since last year and as you can tell really likes him given he got a very early offer. Also not going to have a problem qualifying, so why wait if you ask me.
