Here are a few links to KTBS website giving an inside look into Rasco's recruitment process with schools like UT, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, FSU, and Florida. Rick Rowe was his football coach when he was younger and is the man behind the footage. I find it interesting to have a little insight into each head coach's personality during the recruiting process. Guess which head coach of the above mentioned schools would not let the cameras in during Rasco's visit? The below links are small clips of a larger story called "Biography of a Blue Chip" Segment One: Biography Of A Blue Chip - Video - KTBS Shreveport The Decision: Biography Of A Blue Chip - Video - KTBS Shreveport Signing Day: Biography Of A Blue Chip - Video - KTBS Shreveport
thanks for the links. very nice. it wasnt a surprise who wouldnt allow cameras. and it also wasnt a suprise that coach miles talked about turning out good men that make good fathers and husbands. so much i read and hear about him is about the emphasis he puts on graduating young men with good character, not just football players. watching that part made me feel good that he is our coach, and must have meant something to rasco and his family. muschamp obviously made quite an impression and it was a difficult decision. the pressure these kids face is immense. good thing his mom liked lsu so much! good vids!
Actually that was second on my list of things on the video that struck a chord with me. The first would have to be that sleazy Alabama recruiter talking "You know who Julius Peppers is? I coached him the last 7 years. He's in the NFL making 16 million a year. Only 16 mil." Watching the video you could tell Rasco's decision was influenced significantly by his mother. They are very close. He appears to be a high character guy. Glad he will be wearing the purple and gold next year.
"how much?" and who was the trainer. i mean i know there are coaches that are "intense" but he was downright loony tunes. he scared me! the one thing i wish the stories would have done is asked rasco more questions about his thoughts through out the process. they were great and it was very interesting, but about the only thing we saw of his real emotion and thoughts was the night before decision day and on nsd. i would love to know what he thought about a lot of the coaches! but given what we saw of his mom, she probably taught him "if you cant say anything nice...."
That's an OUTSTANDING set of video's, GREAT job by KTBS TV and their sportscaster. Great post ninichr! It gives some up close insight into the recruiting process that I have never seen before; I recommend it to anyone who has not watched recruiting done up close and personal. I am left struck by the difficulty faced by the kid, all the programs are good. I sympathize with his mom, I was happy when my kids went off to college, but I wondered how they'd survive without their parents to help them along each day (thankfully they all did). I was impressed with Coach Miles; he is a great recruiter and LSU is lucky to have such a personable high character person to lead our football team. There is a reason he got his extension, he has earned it. Geaux Coach Miles!!!
A few tidbits. Miles can recruit. He charmed momma, kissing her a long time and joking he enjoyed it. Nice touch to take them to his own house. It was evident that Rasco likes the spotlight. He knew cameras were on him at the dome when he was on the ground doing his praise God routine, etc.. His mother wasn't sure of his decision until the final day or so, which meant that we could have missed on him. He wasn't just enjoying the process, but there seemed to be a distinct possibility of him going some where else.
