I don't know why he didn't get an offer. Could it be numbers or grades? UT has 2 LB's right now. An espn article highlighted him as having a great showing at the underarmour camp in Texas.

A few people I talk to have been talking Davis up to me as potentially the best WR in the region.

Admittedly I don't know enough about the guy to say one way or the other but he certainly looks like a playmaker.

Reading today's Advocate article on Davis' commitment, from Davis' comments, he reminded me of Russell Sheppard... seems to have a good head on the shoulders. He seems to know what he wants, and makes a clean crisp commitment decision. Smart enough to check up on Miles to see if Miles is genuine. Wonder if Sheppard has anything to do with influencing him

He has a video on youtube if people are interested. He played in a spread offense which gave him an opportunity to catch a lot of balls. He looks solid. He made a diving catch, an over the opposite shoulder catch, and showed good vision cutting back when running after the catch. He doesn't have blazing speed because he really isn't always pulling away from defenders. The videos were shot from far away so I couldn't see the detail I wanted though.

For those that haven't seen it, ESPN has Mike Davis' evaluation up.

The one thing that stands out about Davis is he is a smart football player. He plays with savvy and know-how and has a penchant not only for finding ways to get open, but also making the clutch grab whether he's wide open or in traffic. He possesses adequate size and height and has the frame to get bigger and much stronger. He is able to consistently generate separation from man-coverage because he attacks it and gets defenders on their toes. Gets in and out of breaks quickly and does not need to gear down much at all. He is a savvy route runner who consistently gets defenders to bite on his smooth double moves. Gains separation because of quickness out of the break, but also because he eats upthe cushion before he breaks. Possesses a rare ability to adjust to the ball thrown over his shoulder, as well as concentration when competing for jump balls in traffic and/or near the sideline. He has a lot of experience adjusting to poorly thrown balls as he does not play with the most accurate set of QB's. Will make the acrobatic catch and plays with the mind set that the ball is his no matter where it is. Displays very good leaping ability and wins more jump balls than most receivers his height. He can pluck the ball naturally on the run. Gets upfield in a hurry with very little wasted motion. Is a shifty and quick runner after the catch. Displays good vision as an open-field runner as well. Davis can be a bit of a short-strider when he opens the gate and this gives him the slight appearance that he has some stiffness in the hips, but he truly does not when he changes directions. He must improve his ability to get off the line when defenders get in his face in press coverage. Can get held up when DB's with some strength get their hands on him. He has a nice combination of speed and quickness, but we are not sure we would call him an absolute burner. Overall, Davis can play inside or outside and he is just darn productive. He is a go-to guy that consistently makes plays and knows how to get open. Excellent prospect.

I did not want to cause an uproar last month after I learned about the history of prospects from Dallas Skyline. Prospects from that school have a history of breaking commitments.

However, in this case I am not too worried about losing him because of the enthusiasm he has shown will visiting LSU a few times already and the wonderful things he said about LSU.

Under Armour All-American receiver Mike Davis (Dallas, Texas/Skyline) didn't work out at this weekend's NFTC in Texas. But he might have been the source of the biggest piece of recruiting news. The LSU commit talked about some other visits he may take before his decision to head to Baton Rouge for college is permanent.

Davis was asked if he was still solid to the Tigers.

"I am pretty committed," Davis said. "But I want to take some other visits. I want to visit California and I want to visit Florida."

Davis also said he was recently timed at 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash on the track at his school.

Visits to Cal and Florida sounds more like vacation destinations IMO than potential suitors for Davis.

I think he will cause some fans to worry but in the end he is a Tiger.
