LSU has been very inconsistent over the last 4 years in recruiting at the RB and WR spots. We go years without signing guys, then have to play catch up. This is not good.
inconsistent in quality or numbers? quality yes, numbers no, it was only last year where we only signed 1 receiver. in 2008 we signed 4, 2 gone already, 1 hurt. in 2007 we signed 3, 1 gone others moved to different position.
Both, very few are left on the roster. Right now we are down to, unless Clairborne is going WR. T. Tolliver (Sr.) Randle (So.) C. Toliver (So.) You basically have to sign 2-3 guys a year every year in both RB and WR. We go years without signing guys in those positions or just end up with 1 guy. You have to sign guys even if they are less then a 4 star. Last year we needed more than just 1 WR, we needed probably 3 at least.
I agree, last year hurt because we only signed 1 guy. Claiborne is going to stay at corner we need him there. Peterson may have to move back from TE to WR, to provide depth, he isnt speedy, but he is big and has great hands. C.Toliver is going to have to step up big time or Shep is going to have to learn the position fast. But I think we will be fine with the guys we have on the board right now. We should sign at least 3 of them.
If you can get Reed to LSU, I don't know if there is a possibility of Lache playing WR but to me that makes more sense instead of RB. Sign Wright or Fobbs if possible or even see about Ambles.
Tennessee has a great track program as well. They've won four team National Championships in the last ten years alone (2001, 2002, 2005, 2009). And yeah, Tennessee is known as "WR University." One or more Tenn WRs were taken in the Draft in 2007, 2004, 2003, 2001, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1992, 1991, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1984, 1983, 1982, 1979 and 1977. A Tenn WR was taken in the First Round in 2007, 2002, 1998, 1991, 1988, 1986, 1984, 1983, 1982 and 1977. Of course, distance is a big issue. Knoxville is only 55 miles from the Virginia border, while Baton Rouge is 710 miles.
I really, really wish that recruits can sign letters of intent (with appropriate escapes clauses) ANYTIME during their senior year. Then everyone knows where they stand. The university knows that the recruit is signed and the recruit knows that his place on the roster is a sealed deal. The NCAA doesn't need this type of drama. It can't be good.
