Re: 2010 TE Nick Jacobs COMMITS!

I read an article, can't remember where, that said we expect him to play TE.
If we get Dickson that would give us more wiggle room in moving him to DE if we wanted. We really do need TE's more than DE's after the last signing class though, Montgomery, Logan, Brockers, possibly Mingo could all play DE.

As of now he is a TE. That could change depending on our DE recruiting and senior year performance.

Nick gained about 25 pounds this year and kept his 4.8 speed. Up to 265+

Now this is where it gets interesting. I heard about his growth earlier this year and I fully expected him to end up at OL and his HS coach agrees but Jacobs says he is staying at TE which wouldn't be a bad thing because he would be an extension of the OL and could be a freak catching passes and he does have great hands.

Also in the article it mentioned that Bates and Fordham will be moving to the OL. We know Fordham will be a center after his redshirt year and he has already gained about as much weight as Jacobs has this year. He is working toward that goal. But Bates, I don't see it. Also interesting that both Bates and Fordham have been mentioned as H-backs too. Bates excelled at that position when he got an offer at the July camp and Fordham played FB in the O-D All American game and was the most consistent rusher in practices and the game.

Allen has also been mentioned at OL but I see him staying at DE and Miles confirmed that with him when he took his official visit 2 weeks ago.

Travis Dickson is a TE all the way IMO despite what is said in this article.

Not sure how this will all shack out. Thoughts?

I don't see Bates on the OL or at FB. I think Jacobs is one of our most underrated recruits. It doesn't surprise me if he is up to 265, because he is tall with a big frame. I don't know how great his hands are, but if he can catch the ball he could be an outstanding TE that can block and help our running game. I think the injuries to Dickson may have hurt his blocking this year. I hope we keep Jacobs at TE and let the 300lb freshmen we sign man the OL.

his blocking is amazing. Having a te who can seal a de is a must to have a consistent running game like that. especially for versitile running backs like gore coming in who needs to bounce to the outside
