Alright, so it looks like our class of RB's will be: Alfred Blue 3 STAR 6'2" 203lb 4.5 Jakhari Gore 4 STAR 5'8" 170lb 4.6 Spencer Ware 4 STAR 5'11" 220lb 4.7 They will be replacing these Sr's: Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, and Trindon Holliday. I'd like to hear everybody's thoughts on this group of RB's, including comparing their styles, which one you think will end up the best, and which one will make the quickest impact. Let's hear it!
I think Blue is the guy who "fits the mold" for Miles' offense the most, while Ware shows flashes of brilliance with a big body, and Gore is explosive in the open field. I really like Ware, and I think he may end up being the best player of the 3, but I'm hesitant to say that because I'm not even sure that he stays at RB. Plus, he will have to learn the position when he gets here because he is a QB in HS. That will be a big disadvantage to him playing early.
I see Ware going nowhere but RB. Hes too athletic and dangerous with the ball in his hands. I think he'll turn out to be the best of this group and will be the best athlete by far, IMO. Blue has all the physical ability to be a great back. However, I don't think hes as physical as people claim. In fact, I think that is his weakness. Hes fast and his frame will likely add a lot of weight but I'm not sold on his hard nosed physical mentality. I think he needs to get tougher. Has the highest ceiling of the three, IMO. Gore has excellent field vision, agility and acceleration. Hes not a blazer but he'll make big plays simply from the previous three things mentioned about him. Would be a good receiving back option too. Probably the more versatile of the three. I say hes more versatile than Ware because I think that is what he will be here. I think ware will fit the mentality of a power back, while Gore will do it all. I'm worried about how much quickness/speed he'll lose from filling his frame out. Hes not big and you'd have to imagine LSU will want him at least, minimum, 200lbs. I think he'll land somewhere in the 210 range myself. Will that slow him down? We'll see. I think hes closer to around 160 than his listed weight, IMO.
So what you are saying is he is going to take the handoff and run right into his own guards back for a 1/2 yard gain on 9 out of 10 first downs?
Hey CParso, glad to see you back on here, kinda missed you this season. Being as I gave up on LS a while back I think we have a good group of RB's. I was not Impressed with Gore's physical numbers but his video sure looked good. Blue Is a LSU fallback recruit but surely will do as well (hopefully better) as Williams & Holliday did at RB. I think Ware will be kinda in the Scott mold and the best of the three.. 1. Ware, 2. Gore 3. Blue. I hope all three become great Tigers..
Do you know how hard it is for someone 5'8'' to become 210 lbs. and maintain their quickness? Guys like Maurice Jones-Drew are a rarity. Gore will be lucky to get to 190 during his time here and that's fine. I'm pretty happy with Ware and Blue as our "power" backs, they both have a chance to be good. I'm really excited for Ware, he just seems like such a natural athlete that I can't see him failing out there. He seems like a real "winner" and "leader" as well. Even if he ends up at another position (H-back? Linebacker?) I think he'll succeed. I guess that depends on how good Ford, Ridley and to some extent, Blue and Gore look this spring and summer. I'm not expecting all 3 of these kids to be great, but if they can at least all three be good I'll feel comfortable. We need depth above all else with such a hole at the top of the depth chart.
