re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I have a bad feeling that this can hurt LSU recruiting in the future. The Benton/Randle, Michael/LS, and (possible) Johnson/LS. Many are still in the dark about Dexter Pratt even though his recent lack of judgement make some think his LSU departure might have been due to mischief on his part. Something still doesn't smell right about that episode. I can see other coaches using these "offer/delay" methods to hurt LSU in future recruiting. I really hope this is not the case with Johnson. That would be one hell of a birthday gift for a young man (with an offer) - who drove across a few states with his father to do something very important on a very big day for him, personally. (Hypothetically) - If LS is pulling a Janzen Jackson on LSU while he intends to sign elsewhere, there will be some angry fans. LS did say that he's working on something pretty funny, right? I hope this saga is put to bed, soon.
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I'm going to go out on a limb here and say if what LS said is true, the joke will be on Auburn. I don't think anyone sees LSU as his leader right now and Reed does a have a strong relationship with LSU. I've been saying this for awhile but I think LS is playing Auburn.
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I am not worried because it seems to me that Storm is not worried and not in the least disappointed about what transpired on his visit. If he was asked to wait or asked to hide in the shadows, it seems that Storm is content with his love for LSU and being a Tiger come NSD.
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU Not worrying nor second-guessing the coaching staff. Just thinking of the possible drawbacks to extending offers that are not "commitable" or "acceptable". I know it doesn't happen often with our staff, but the previously mentioned events, including the Martavious Lee-Juco WR, commit/non-commit, have unfortunately occurred in the last 6 months. Our coaches have been a class act with the way they've handled recruits. No doubt about it. I just hope that we continue that pattern. It goes a long way. I guess hearing the young man sound so excited about being a Tiger reminded me of remarks from Benton and Martavious Lee. Also, how his HS coach mentioned that Storm was "advised to wait" and he "doesn't know what's going on". You have to love when a talented young man that can play just about anywhere chooses your institution - 7 or 8 months in advance. Not playing games. From what I've read, haven't met the young men, I'd take a Storm Johnson and Toney Hurd any day of the week. It's not like they are "Rudy"-type talent. Thanks for the insight and continued updates, bhelm. LSU!
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU :geaux: Totally agree with this. I hope we're not playing with fire here and running the risk of losing a potentially high-impact RB. The depth at RB is razor thin after this season to say the least and the RB's recruited in this 2010 class are going to be critical in correcting that situation. Without being privy to the staff's strategy here, I don't see the value of having Storm delay his commitment if he has a commitable offer, which I'm sure he does. If he has the potential/ability as advertised, we need to get him on board now and worry about the other guys like Seastrunk/Hill/Hilliard later. If they come great. If they get scared by the competition, fine. But what I don't want to see happen is to lose a kid like Storm Johnson whom LSU needs and who wants to be here. Maybe something else is going on here, but right now it seems to be a strange situation. I just hope Storm ends up at LSU, the sooner the better. :LSU231:
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I don't think LS is bothered by another back based upon the write-ups of him "recruiting Dyer/Lattimore to Auburn" (if true). Unless something has changed. 1- IMO, I don't think it was an accident that LS and his mom were in BR the same weekend that Storm was due to commit. Also, not saying that it had an impact on the Storm matter, but it could have. 2- On "offers" - we know how to hold back on offering, if we're don't want you or not sure at the moment. Ask: Munchie, Broadway, Lacy, Sentimore, R. Broussard, Hurd, Carter, etc. I'm officially a Storm/Hurd fan. Lol.
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I became a LSU fan when I read that Storm Johnson was committing to LSU, hence LSUFAN09. I've been following this kid since his playing days in park recreation. He was always way ahead of the other players. He loves competition and refuses to be anything but the best. He works extremely hard in the weight room. The story is that he's been in the weight room with his parents since the age of 2, which is why is numbers are so high. I would hate for LSU to loose out on this kid. He is truly underrated, because his playing time in his junior year was limited. But, boy went he got the ball...he was end zone bound. Refused to be brought down. He was asked once why he played like that. His response..."I never knew when I was going to get the ball again, so I made sure I did something good with it when I got it." To have just turned 17, doing what he did and is capable of doing....OMG....I sure hope CLM gets this together, real soon, before the flood of other schools start jumping in again.
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I think it's safe to assume none of us know what is going on for sure. There are two trains of thought...and I don't know which to board. 1)Montrell Conner, DBenton type sitch...which is not good. When this kid first "committed", he seemed VERY excited about being a Tiger. I had visions of him recruiting others ala Shep last year...he seemed to bleed P&G already. But teenagers are fragile. I hope he doesn't feel embarrassed by this and say fawgetaboutit! - 2)"I was advised to wait" could mean he was advised to keep silent. They may have promised him a spot, but just wanted to keep it all hush hush...and he may be perfectly fine with that. He may be on board with the whole hush hush thing and doesn't want his HS coach to spill the beans. - Whatever it is, I hope it's all out in the open soon. When they say they wanna be a Tiger, and they're qualified to be a Tiger, I get sorta attached to them. I would hate to see this guy playing for someone else for the next few years. He's ready to enroll in spring by all accounts, great GPA and ACT score, and again, apparently bleeds P&G. Also, he seems like a beast! I want him to be a Tiger!
re: 2010 RB Storm Johnson "pretty much" COMMITED TO LSU I disagree. Looking ahead is important. We must weigh our needs against not only what we already have on the team & what is available in this class, but what is available in the next class as well. With Michael weren't looking ahead - our coaches just weren't that high on him. Don't forget Worle. It's all a gamble. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but the coaches have a much better idea of whether it will or not than anyone else.
