Actually Auburn has 6 spots left, 5 of the 27 players listed are already in school and will count toward last years class. Rivals reported about a week ago that Auburn and LSU had both backed off considerably on Seastrunk. I have a feeling he will end up at Oregon but I wouldn't count out USC, he would be a great fit for Lane Kiffin out there. Plus, his friend Ahmad Dixon, who was commited to Tennessee is supposed to be in LA this weekend. I think Auburn feels good about where they are with Lattimore at this point and LSU is looking good at RB with Gore and Blue on the commit list. Its comes down to need at this point and Seastrunk simply left his cards on the table for far too long.
What? LSU has recruited top rated classes with tons of high character kids for a long time now. What Red is saying is that these KIDS have no clue yet so you can't take their words/actions in high school as seriously as their words/actions after being in the program for a couple of years.
This seems very likely, but I think LS is talented enough to make room for if he decides LSU is where he wants to play.
First of all, there is nowhere in my post where I allude to any correlation between talent and character, whatsoever. I will not name names, obviously, but there have been players that have had a lot more athletic ability that what I would call football ability or football sense. Football is more than the sum of the parts or stats. At the higher level, it requires more than a great 40 time or other individual measurement to be a champion. Loading up on "talent" does not guarantee a great team when all the chemistry and other challenges are taken into account. That is all. hwr
I am by no means a recruiting guru so I will leave the talent assessments, etc to the others but I have to say regarding the "drama queen/character" slant that these recruits are in truth just kids. Have any of you had a conversation with an 17-18 year old recently? I'm amazed that I was ever that clueless.... They have no idea about anything that's why they still have parents helping them make decisions. It's the parents that are more of the problem, probably. Take Janzen's dad last year as a perfect example. Or Storm's dad, from what I understand regarding his situation. Anyway, would gladly take Lache if we can get him and hope his mom helps him make the right decision. And stop busting on these kids...blame the parents if anybody for them acting like drama queens.
Talent and character are independent from each other; a person can have various levels of each. The greatest sum of both makes a great team.
Here is the point I'm trying to make. Virtues like maturity, leadership, and character can be coached and learned through playing. But virtues like speed, size, strength, and agility are what a team must recruit because they can't be taught. It awfully difficult to judge maturity, leadership, and character until you coach a kid anyway.
DD says Lache Seastrunk will make a Committment Announcement on Jan 27 & he thinks we still are in the lead for him. I say no way. Whats the general feeling on TF's as to LSU's chances??
