did anyone notice that Storm is now rated above Lache on ESPNs rankings, and way above Ware? not saying their rating is more accurate than the coaches assessments, but it is interesting nonetheless. don't know what to make of it, though, since ESPN actually doesn't even rate Texas commit Traylon Shead, and he is one of the top backs in TX and has even been written about as possibly breaking the all-time TX (and national) rushing record (although, it won't likely happen b/c he needs too many yards with too few games left). Rivals ranks Lache above Storm (both are in the top 30), and ranks Shead in top RBs (not top 100). I know people want to forget about Storm, but it is still a bit puzzling how some think of him so highly. It's still one of those head scratchers for me, kind of like CMichael last year (who looked good for A&M vs UT last pm, btw).
I think Kenneth is pretty safe as he is 1764 yards ahead with the playoffs almost over. Shead, Jeffery on verge of history... Shead has 9,468 career rushing yards and remains SECOND ALL-TIME behind Kenneth Hall (11,232).
Wonder why Shead is not rated higher? If anyone is interested, here is an old SI article about Ken Hall. It was written in 1982, so obviously some stats have changed, but he still holds the national high school record for most yards in a career, and most yards in a season (he's #1 and 2 still in that one). What's interesting is why you don't hear about him after high school. Texas high school superstar Ken Hall flamed out at - 08.05.08 - SI Vault
You should just forget about about the ESPN rankings. I don't really like rankings all together but ESPN is the worst source for them when I use them.
Yeah, I agree about ESPN. But, even Rivals has SJ rated fairly high now - way higher than Ware or Blue. Who knows the rationale, or what goes on behind the scenes about why the staff does not like one player over another, it's just interesting to see SJ rated higher than others we are presently targeting. Don't know if it was just timing, character, perceived needs vs his style, but it seems he wanted to be a Tiger (again, kind of like CM last year) and we passed on him - hopefully for good reasons (but not clear publicly). It doesn't seem like its based on talent, though. I mean if every offer was strictly on talent/predicted success in the SEC, we would have very different #2 and 3 QBs on our roster, LOL
I edited my post above but too late before the responses came in. LSU wasn't the only program to pass on Storm. He named 2 or 3 different leaders this year and a few weeks later he completely changed who was 1st because he was not given a committable offer. Not saying he is a horrible RB but many coaches must feel he is limited in a few areas and there are some potential red flags there. The main reason Ware is rated lower is because he doesn't play RB in high school but LSU brought him into camp and he was obviously better than what they saw from Storm because Ware's commit was accepted right after Storm tried to commit. Blue is rated lower because he got a late start in the rankings. He was originally supposed to be a 2011 prospect and therefore has had less time to get exposure. He did not attend many camps, etc.. over the summer. QBs have the hardest transition from HS to college and therefore harder to gauge. It doesn't help matters when Lee was forced into playing so early with RP being kicked off the team. Our #2 next year will likely be Garrett next year and I see him being more equipped than our current #2 and 3.
Just a couple of questions for the experts. OK, the season is over, do we really think that Lache Seastrunk still hasn't made up his mind? I keep hearing that LSU is a clear leader but my feelings are that for every day that passes without a decision we are losing ground. Have to be, otherwise he would have comitted... ? Quarterbacks - Which way is LSU going - spread or dropback? If Jefferson is #1 & Garrett is #2 next year - they are totally different kinds of players aren't they? Won't that make things kinda complicated for the players? Where does that leave Sheppard? I'm just wondering.....
If he knows Porter is gone he would be wise not to say too much until he sees who the new coach is. He may like him and now is not the time to say he is or isn't coming.
