Pure speed can be increased...just not by much at all. Its why you have so many busts in the NFL. They draft off potential and when their head gets turned by a guy that had a mediocre college career and then put out insane combine numbers...they take a risk on him. Because coaches are stubborn and look at physical ability, something they can't coach. Mental, they think they can coach. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Often times they look past at them just being great Football players. Like doing all the small stuff right...like reading your blocks, knowing where to cut depending on what direction blockers are going, awareness, etc. Hester was a damn good Football player. A example on our team this year...Lafell runs some of the cleanest routes I've seen in recent years from a WR. Its one of the most overlooked things because NFL coaches think they can coach that. Its one of the #1 reasons WRs have a huge bust %.

If Lafell can work on his concentration with his hands...hes going to be a great receiver in the NFL, IMO.

That is what back counting means but you can still only have 28 signed in each new class.

Back counting would help getting more than 25 in each class on scholarship. So if we have 28 signed this year, we have to figure out what to do with the extra 3. Back counting which I do not understand the requirements for, greyshirts, sign and place, or non-qualifiers.

I also do not know what happens with our numbers since we currently only have 24 from last class on football scholarships because Ainsworth decided to quit football.

You can only back count early enrollee's and only if the previous class has less than 25 on scholarship. Since Ainsworth is gone, we can back count 1 to last years class but that 1 must be an early enrollee. They have to be in school by signing day, or thereabouts, to qualifying as an early enrollee.

There is no way to bring in more than 25 per class.

In most cases the new rule will pretty much eliminate the sign and place kids for SEC schools. A sign and place is going to count against the 28.

    Thanks for the info.

I know that a sign and place will count against the 28 but I doubt it will eliminate it from happening most of the time. Nutt will continue to bulk up the local Juco's with sign and places and then pick and chose which ones he wants when a need arises. LSU has never been big into that practice but Miles and Churphy Steward have discussed the possibility a few times this year. Don't see it happening now with the numbers the way they are now.

In H.S. I got my 40 yard dash time down from 4.9/40 to 4.5/40 and gained 10 lbs in the process over one summer. It can be done.

Any chance this guy could eventually be a Wr? The running back depth we'll eventually have is going to be rough.

That is pure technique though. Were you in track? Big difference in working on solely technique for track and then translating it to the Football field with Football pads on.

Some guys are just incredibly fluid with their speed/bodies and some who have speed...are not. See Rueben Randle and how smooth of a athlete he is. Watch his HS film. Hes going to be a stud for us.

4.9 to a 4.5 is a pretty huge increase too, did you run bowlegged in HS lol?

Football and soccer. The offseason was spent with a lot of focus on quickness drills, lots of distance running and lots more with the quickness drills, focusing on explosion more so than finishing. We had probably the best coaching staff in the state, outside of LSU's.
