Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue He is a good back and right up there as one of the best of the 2010 class but 2011 class RBs Hilliard and Hill are significantly better IMO. The LA 2010 class is pretty weak this year overall.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue I watched some of his game last night. He looks lanky and fairly tall for a RB. Blue didn't do anything overly impressive, but managed to gain a ton of yards because he had good blocking and had enough speed to break long gainers. He seems to be a glider with a little of everything at the high school level. He has enough speed, power and finds the hole or bounces runs outside to get his yardage. What I didn't see is outstanding power, speed, quickness or moves. He just seems hard to evaluate because he plays behind a superior line and glides along. He falls forward upon contact, but doesn't run through people. Reminds me a little bit of Harvey Williams because of his build.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue So he will be able to hit the wall quicker than Scott right? Because there are not many holes to run through. A good OL can make an average back look great. A bad OL can make a great back look bad. I'm not saying that the RB play doesn't need to improve, but the OL play has had a far greater negative impact on the running game. Barry Sanders does not play for LSU, we need some blocking to run the ball consistently.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue Here is a little tidbit, from nola.com, his stats: Alfred Blue Football Bio @ Hahnville - nola.com Since I live on the Westbank of New Orleans, I try to make as many Friday Night games at West Jeff, and try to make a couple of games at Hahnville. On what I have seen of Blue LSU would get a very fine RB, if he commits to us. !twocrystals!
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue I really think Miles holds true to the depth chart formula and tries not to leapfrog guys. Ford is a true freshman sitting behind two very accomplished and heralded seniors (Williams moreso for his HS exploits, but I digress), Ridley and what would've been Murphy. It made a lot of sense to redshirt him, and I think once that decision was made, the focus for Ford became learning the playbook and preparing for next season. He was never actually expected to contribute this season. We have way too many ball carriers as it is, and will have significantly less of them next year. I think Ford's lack of an impact so far is more indicative of our long term plans for him than of his ability to adjust to the college game. Yes, we have struggled running the ball, but not due to dearth of qualified ball carriers. Scott, Williams, Ridley and Shepard have all shown flashes of brilliance this season, but whether it is due to subpar blocking, predictable playcalling, or whatever else, we haven't been able to consistenly rely on any of them. Hard to see Ford doing any better, and it'd be a waste of a year.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue From DandyDon today regarding Ford: On the chances freshman RB Michael Ford may see some playing time... “I’m going to try not to. There is a want there to let him remain redshirted. Maybe Dominique Allen will get some snaps at tailback as well.” Appears your analysis is correct :thumb:
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue Absolutely. Miles does not want to sqander a redshirt year for the sake of 3 or 4 games.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue Yeah, I read that, too. Interesting that he mentions Dominique Allen, though. Guy looked like a beast coming in. Is he ahead of Ford on the depth chart and that's why he would considering wasting Allen's redshirt over Ford's?
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue Allen is a FB and already played this year, so his redshirt is off already. I doubt we see him take any snaps as a RB with his size which was an issue when he got on campus. I hear he does have surprising speed for his size though.
Re: 2010 RB Alfred Blue I think he may see a touch or two against La Tech. Would be nice to see. Good FBs are so underrated.
