6m is even better than the earlier reported 3m. Either way I think if there is a shot for us to sign him this is the best possible chance. The dodgers are up shiit creek without a paddle right now and can't see them throwing a ton of cheddar at this kid. I'm cautiously optimistic.
FWIW, high spot doesn't always mean they are gone. TCU has a 13-0 freshman this year that went #14 to Rangers. MLB would not let Rangers get even close to the 7 mil he wanted due to their financial problems, they are getting serious about slot money. Still think Lee will play football..............maybe both!:geaux:
I'm just wondering what you guys think about a prospect like Zach Lee. From what I read he has a good chance of being both a starting ace pitcher or/and a starting QB for LSU somewhere down the road (assuming he makes it here). With a position as important as QB, would you want your starting QB to play a second sport during the offseason? As a baseball fan, would you want one of your starting pitchers to be playing QB during the offseason? Besides the injury concerns of playing both sports, what about the loss of development and focus that playing a key role in two different sports would bring? Have we had a player in the past play both QB and another sport at LSU? Seems to me like it would be best for him to pick one sport and stick with it, and I'm sure both the football team and the baseball team would both want him. Just seems like too much to put on one kid IMO. What do you think?
If that is where the kids heart is and he is set on playing both sports, he is gonna do so. Some where. Might as well be lsu. I don't have a prob with it. If he has the talent and self discipline, he and coaches that support him can make it work. I'm more concerned about him going pro right now. I'm hoping this is not a moot point.
Now there is an angle I hadn't looked at it from. Very good point. I'm sort of neutral on it but certainly see the cause for concern and I'm sure the coaching staff of both teams do as well. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
OB Mike Miley left his senior season at LSU to play professional baseball. Josh Booty passed on coming to LSU to play professional baseball. But he regretted it, returned his bonus and came to LSU eventually to become an all-SEC quarterback before leaving early for the NFL. At some point they choose between sports.
Toughest to Sign - Zack Lee Hope this is true Toughest to Sign Prep right-hander Zach Lee has had some lofty bonus numbers floating around with his name over the last few months, and that has scared many teams off. Despite his elite talent, the combination of those bonus demands and rumors of his serious intent on playing football at LSU, Lee was expected to drop like a rock on day one.
