Like who? Mallett hardly counts. He wasn't JUCO, played a year at Michigan, and is entering his 3rd year at Arkansas. He will have played 4 years of BCS football over 5 years (if he doesn't leave early). Unless you are talking strictly transfers, then maybe so, but for every Ryan Mallett, there are 2 Jevan Sneads.
As bad as this is for our QB depth chart, I think it could bring us a big name QB this year. Good QBs are going to look hard at this depth chart and think about how they could start to compete for a starting job in 2 years. Miles and Co. will also be going hard after QBs this year and next as well. I think we land a top 5 QB this year or next.
Mallett was a transfer and that matches what I said above. Never said all pan out but they do add competition and possibly a filler if Rivers would not be ready. Look at Auburn's QB depth chart and Cameron Newton starting this year. Tenn just signed a Juco and will have a JUCO starter and Ole Miss a transfer who will start. Vandy signed Aaron Rodgers' brother. As you can see my point is there are options out there and many have worked out great and the SEC is following the trend as of late and wouldn't be doing so if there was a great chance these guys couldn't help the program in times of need. We are in that time of need and can't be too picky. I think everyone agrees with that. Raymond Cotton who was recently released from Ole Miss is interested in LSU and one guy on my wish list is Mettenberger who was kicked off the UGA team.
Fair enough. My original comment was about JUCOs specifically. But none of these guys have played a down yet. I don't know much about Vandy's situation, but I don't expect much out of the others. I suppose we don't have much of a choice, anyway. What have you heard about Cotton? He is at South Alabama now and has been a pretty hot topic around here, but I haven't heard anything about him possibly transferring again.
Watch out for Newton and Simms this year. Newton is the real deal IMO. Cotton had a friend or family member come onto another board and he said he was interested in LSU now. This was last night.
However, he could play at South Alabama for a season and come to LSU in the Spring. Or he could transfer to LSU now and have to sit out a year (Not sure what the rule is on 2 transfers though in one season) THe point stands though, even if they are not released to a SEC school they can still go if they want to.

If South Alabama puts an LSU restriction on then he would have to sit a year too. So either way he is going to have to sit one year.
i think Mettenberger could get it done here, as long as he isnt doing a Rothlesberger impression.. must be the berger in them boys.
