Most thought he would be rated pretty high at QB but he only has a few offers from Bama, Uconn, Nebraska, and La Tech so far. Oregon is about to offer as well. LSU has not offered yet and the staff is now looking at him as a FS. LSU was planning on him coming in during January but he has not come by LSU to pick it up. He went to Bama's Junior Day instead of LSU's as well. Broadway is now saying he is open to playing other positions and his coach thinks LSU would still have a great shot at him even though we have not been in much contact because he is leaning to staying close to home. Going to be an interesting battle to follow this year. I think it will come down to LSU, Bama, and Oregon and he will have to decide if he rather play QB at Bama or Oregon (who says they are only taking one QB and he would be a perfect fit). Distance and potential playing QB would put Bama in the lead at this point until we see how serious he is to being open to another position.
If LSU doesn't think he is QB material I am not that excited about pursuing him. We just signed a great safety prospect in Reid and grabbed Loston last year. We seem to get a lot of athletes that project as a db's also. I think we can sign better defensive players with higher ceilings.
I agree 100%! I'm not real excited about this kid I just think there's better players out there to be had. I don't think this kid is that good to be playing us along with Bama. Let Bama waste another scholly on a average LA player just because he's from LA. I hope they get McKnight too. The more average players they get the better.
I'm not keen on passing up a talented BR or LA player out of hand. Of course, the staff knows exactly what they're doing. I just hope LSU maintains its virtual lock on just about any LA kid they want. To do that, I'm wondering if sometimes the staff doesn't just need to take a great kid they may not necessarily need and find a way to leverage his talents. If Bama and Tenn start getting too many of our better players (Sentimore, Bell, Jackson), recruiting gets easier and easier for them in the Bayou state...
I understand your point, not wanting other SEC teams to get a foothold here. I don't think that Broadway is not the same quality as the 3 you mentioned if he plays out of position. I guess the problem is we have to make a decision based on how he fits at LSU and not where he will go if we don't take him. We can never know with absolute certainty where a player will go or if Bama, for example, will back off of him. So I think the coaches worry about LSU and let the chips fall where they may. I do think that we take LA talent over OOS talent if we have to choose between 2 players of like abilities. I am totally with you that we should keep the fences up around our boys if we don't have to sacrifice for lesser talent.
Yeah. It's not something I'm extremely worried about. But Saban and Ogre have a history with the coaches in LA (good and bad). I admit to being a tad nervous when a 4 star or better kid goes to another SEC school. It's not the end of the world by any stretch. But a trend in that direction would suck big time. Life is good right now. I see a couple more Top 10, maybe even Top 5, recruiting classes in our immediate future. Soothing thought, that.
Not saying he won't end up at LSU but you have to think it might just be a good thing that Les is not settling on an in-state prospect. We are only going to take one QB in this class and maybe an outside shot at 2 depending on what happens over the fall and next season. We have guys on our board rated higher at QB. As for safety we are in the same boat. We have a few guys who we have legitimate shot at who are definitely rated higher than TB since TB has no experience at the position. Maybe if we have an opening at the end of the year we consider taking him as an Athlete and figure out what to do with him down the line and a possible QB if we find ourselves in a bind. Miles has shown he wants to take the best athletes he can get and has done a great job of mixing the in-state guys with the OOS prospects.
Not really worried if we let Broadway get away. Other than a great name, I don't think we'd be getting anything we couldn't find elsewhere. Based on the rest of his offers, Saban is only trying to force our hand.
The evaluation I read on him (ESPN, I think) basically said that he isn't a top D1 QB talent, and isn't a good enough athlete to be a top D1 talent at any other position either. I don't plan to pay much attention to Broadway this year, as I don't think LSU will offer or that we're missing out on anything. Good luck to him.
Well the word that LSU was just waiting for him to come in to pick up his offer is not playing out that way anymore. He was at LSU's practice last Thursday and no offer was extended. He said the coaches said they would contact him more but nothing has happened so far this week in terms of contact. This is straight from a video interview from the N.O. combine. He said he will be at LSU's camp this summer along with Bama's. I would say he is Bama's no doubt especially if he wants to stay at QB because we are not offering him at that position. Only way I see an offer coming is if they work him at Safety at the camp and like what they see. But that is a long shot as well with the log jam of current safeties on the roster, Reid already committed, and we are after plenty of top safety prospects to fill the last spot at safety in this class.
