Re: Commercial Appeal article on LSU commit Justin Maclin The general talk around Memphis is that the Chief a big reason in his commiting to LSU. Tennessee doesn't have a lot great Division I players, but I think this young man may turn out to be a great Tiger. ldskule:
Re: Commercial Appeal article on LSU commit Justin Maclin Can you imagine this kid alongside BarkeSaintslogovious Mingo. Give me chills just thinking about it!
Going to be interesting to see where he ends up but I suspect he will play OLB to start and see how much mass he gains before moving to DE. The outside LB spot will also give him a chance to rush the edge like a DE. TigerRag - RECRUITING: Maclin talks Floirda, Auburn and injury
:geaux: Great news. Hope that's a good indication that we'll hold on to the rest who were recruited by Porter. :LSU231:
Well, Yano is still here for the time being. Porter/Yano are both friends of his dad. It doesn't hurt that Chavis is a outstanding LB coach and I think he really proved it this year for LSU. Look at the development of KS...he reached his potential fast after a very mediocre season last year, IMO. Coleman was also a welcomed surprise. Converted his Senior year and picked up the duties rather quick.
From his comments on the subject, he cited the defense and the defensive coaches as the reason he is coming to LSU. Even though Porter and Yano both helped open up communication, they were never going to be coaching him directly day in and day out. Sounds like Maclin understood this from the beginning and did not let it affect the more important reason to commit to LSU. Porter is not going to stop what he started this year and we will hear of him still telling prospects and commits that LSU is still where they should go. We are not going to be in the same market for top targets. We saw this last year with Sam Montgomery. Earl Lane introduced Brick Haley to Sam and made sure the transition went well and the way they handled the situation put us over the top.
So, you're saying hes actually still going to be recruiting for us until NSD? That would be a nice thing for him to do. I don't think its going to help much with LS, IMO. I think we're going to lose him. I really can't see us landing that big of a prospect when a guy who recruited you for over 2+ years is gone. He was close to Porter. The question is...exactly how close is LS to anyone else on the staff. Better hope hes in love with Miles or I think hes as good as gone, IMO. Miles is a good recruiter though...maybe he can make a splash with a big RB coach. Trooper Taylor and Robinson(Miami RB coach) come to mind. I can't see him getting Taylor though, guy seems dirty.
He will not be out in homes recruiting but he has already told Maclin that he should go to LSU and I would assume a classy guy like Porter wold not just back out of all his statements over the last 2 years to recruits. They will talk to him and he will stand by what he told them about LSU just like Earl Lane did last year. Lache, his mom, and Eddie Fuller are very close with much of the staff at LSU and has many bonds from the past 2 years. Miles has always been in direct contact with him as well. Going to be some additional work with Porter gone but LSU will still be in the running all the way to NSD. I wouldn't trade our spot with anybody right now with the distance, opportunity for early playing time, etc...
