You don't need to. If there is one thing CLM is, he is classy and fair, and as ethical as you will find in coaching. If this was unavoidable, he would have done it differently.
You couldn't be a college coach, then. This happens all the time and it is not a tragedy. It's a fact of life.
It's piss poor, never said it was tragic. Les has no business recruiting 20 guys this year... there simply is no room, if it were not for the fact that we will be over again next year I could look over it... as is it's piss poor. This whole process is F'd up.
Well, I seem to remember Porter saying way back when we recruited him he wouldn't take a GS. It sucks but its also BS how the NCAA slapped this new rule in May. LSU recruited everyone back in Feb based on the old rules, so its a little unfair for the staff. However, if Les and staff only notified this kid 24 hours before it happened, that is not classy at all. That is plain wrong. I'm not saying that is what happened...I just hope its not true. Also, LSU isn't telling Porter to leave, just simply to sign for next year. It sucks losing another OL but LSU needs room for this class too. Which Porter leaving would open another slot for this class. As opposed to signing with this class, taking a slot...
OL are usually the 1st to get offered greyshirts because they take the longest to develop especially when making a switch from DT in HS to OL in college and he wasn't expected to contribute this year and take a redshirt. Plus he is an in-state guy so the tuition is cheaper than it is for an OOS guy if they choose to pay their own way.
Get ready because with the new rules enforced in the SEC and likely soon to the whole NCAA greyshirts are going to get more common. THe new rule slapped on in May made matters worse for planning but they did take on action in not signing Dexter Blackmon on NSD. Basically teams will be even more at the mercy of the clearinghouse resolving matters on a timely basis. The ones who are really hurt by these new rules are the Walk-ons who are not as likely to earn one year scholarships when under the 85 limit. Can almost say goodbye to Preferred Walk-ons. LSU is at 82 right now for this season so 3 guys who could have earned scholarships may not be afforded that opportunity anymore and that goes for everyone in the SEC.
