what is our obsession with switching kids from DL to OL? Is this commonly done by other schools? Do we think it is an advantage somehow? Just confuses me
Not uncommon... HS coaches usually put their best athletes at positions of need. Same reason we see so many WRs playing QB in HS.
Jamaal Brown was a highly rated DE prospect coming out of H.S. OU switched him to RT and he ends up as a Pro Bowl LT in the NFL with the Saints. It probably happens as often as a H.S. QB ends up playing WR in college...
High School DL kids usually have better hands, feet and speed than HS OL kids. In college, where blocking technique is much more important, you need more athletic players on the OL, so you move good DL to OL to make Great OL. Provided you have enough Great DL to win with.
:geaux: Why would he be asked to greyshirt anyway? Haven't we been thin on the OL the last couple of years due to injuries, attrition, people being kicked off the team, etc? Doesn't seem like a good way to build OL depth. :LSU231:
