Says he was offered today by the staff after seeing his film and we are #1 on his list. Out of Gainsville, FL and he doesn't hold many offers right now and I would assume the staff wants to see him at camp before accepting a commit but he speaks very highly of the offer.

Holds offers from Arky, UCF, and Ball St.

There's a story now on Scout with him, seems like he's ours to lose, you don't see too many kids as jacked up about an offer as he seems to be.

Seems that way and I am hearing that UF is going to pass on him with the other big guns in state they are taking in state.

    *sigh*

Will we ever get one of the most heralded LB in any class? I have no idea how this guy will turn out but I'm tired of LSU recruiting these "diamond in the rough" types that never pan out. I can't remember the last time we had a great LB unit, aside from the Faulk/James era.

I just don't understand why top recruits at this position is so hard for us to draw here. In all honesty, its one position that should be extremely easy for LSU to fill with great players, considering how easy it is to evaluate a player at this position. Yet, we've always struggled in recent memory at this position. Not trying to knock this guy but I just want one guy that I can say will most likely be a "stud" at LSU.

:geaux: I think Minter in the class we just signed comes in pretty highly rated. Wasn't he like the #1 LB prospect in Ga.? Thought I read that somewhere though. He could possibly rate in the "stud" category.:hihi: :LSU231:

I just watched his films and now understand why UF fans are really hoping he finally gets offered by UF.

I'd imagine UF would offer at some point if for nothing else than to prevent a top SEC rival from coming into their backyard and snagging a top talent.

Regarding top LBs being recruited, it will take time to continue to improve the recruiting in that area overall, but Chavis and def. staff in place now should be able to do that over the next few years. I agree with Minter comments; I think he was top 10 overall LB recruit per ESPNs ratings, and top 3 at his specific LB position - I am not 100% about that, but he was certainly considered a top talent. Also, expect Baker to be a very good - great one. Just stay positive, bmy:), it will happen now that we have a solid defensive coaching staff and ones with the reputations to put LBs and DEs into the NFL.

I agree with Minter but both him and Baker are still unproven at this point. My point really is LSU is HORRIBLY thin at LB right now and I don't think Mingo is going to fill out as a true LB. It would just be nice to get some jaw dropping LB that can immediately start anywhere in the country, like Luc. We seem to do fine in other positions getting some of the most praised players, just not LB for some reason. Especially considering its a position that is one of the easiest to evaluate. Its like in recent years, the guys we've had starting for us, have been "safe" pick LBs. Not horrible, reliable and just lazy in recruiting that area...
