I think we would rather have Lewis but Taylor could be very close to a decision. Really do not know how this will work out if they both want to commit.
Taylor's Altlanta 2009 combine measurables are fine. Telvin Smith, at the same combine, was noticeably slower in the 40--4.85 and the shuttle than Taylor. The more questionable 40 was turned in by Shaun Lewis at the Dallas 2008 combine at 4.86. Comparatively Loston ran a 4.57 and Lache ran a 4.41 at the same combine. In Lewis's defense this was in 2008, not 2009 and his shuttle time was fine (slightly better than Taylor's). The bottom line is I would accept Taylor and his impressive offer sheet in a heartbeat. I think there is a big drop off if we get Telvin Smith though.
Check out this Youtube video on Telvin Smith. I've watched everything on him on the sites, and I like him slightly better than Taylor. I just think we already have some guys like Taylor (Minter, Barrow), and not as many like Smith. I like the idea of having a taller LB like Smith who can make plays in coverage, and I'm not all that concerned about a 40 time bc he plays fast. Tahj Jones is a similar guy to Smith though, so hopefully he gets eligible. YouTube - Jr HL Telvin Smith vs top teams in region So I go Shaun Lewis #1, Smith #2, and then Taylor. They are all good prospects though.
This is one I was hoping would land at LSU but we are out of it and it is down to Tenn, Stanford, and VT.
I wasn't excited about getting someone that doesn't have the build of a LB (192 lbs is fairly underweight). Let's get linebackers that aren't necessarily strength&conditioning projects.
Telvin Smith committed earlier this week or last week. I saw it in a report on Florida commitments, believe it was Miami he chose. :geaux:
