Got his offer today... I really want this kid after watching his film. He clearly anticipates rather than reacts to the play and he takes on blocks from olineman and separates himself to easily shed the blocks. Great technique and Coach Cook of ND HS says he is the best player he has ever coached. I think he could be an early commit on the next Junior Day. He is a huge LSU fan to say the least.
Re: OLB D.J. Welter OLB D.J. Welter: Ht: 6-foot-0 Wt: 214 lbs Forty: 4.48 secs http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=80397
Re: OLB D.J. Welter Those 40 times are bs, I'd put money on it. Kid looks really good on film though.
Re: OLB D.J. Welter "He's going to LSU" was the response of my friend from Crowley when I asked about Welter. Hopefully more top in-state guys will follow his lead.
Re: OLB D.J. Welter I agree he probably doesn't run a 4.48. He might be in the 4.5s though. On paper.. his shuttle time jumps out at me as impressive. 4.5-ish is plenty fast for a OLB.
Re: OLB D.J. Welter Probably will get a commit from Welter, Jacobs and Reid real soon. Now, I'd like to see us get that LB from Tennessee and I'd be happy, assuming everyone from this past class qualifies at LB.
Re: OLB D.J. Welter I watched some of his films, I agree he probably runs a 4.5 flat. But he has what it takes to be a good SEC linebacker, I love his instincts. Good post BHelm.
Re: 2010 LB D.J. Welter 6' 215-220lbs as a junior in high school, running a 4.5 40. Thats pretty damn good measurables if you ask me, plenty fast enough. Plus he's got good instincts and anticipates, and doesn't react. Sounds good to me.
