He still attended the Spring Game and was having a great time from what I hear.

We are still very much in the picture if he turns his grades around in a hurry and we do not fill up on DT before then.

    Grades really hurting him.

Reports that he is now committed to La Tech because he wouldn't make it into Tenn.

One thing I don't understand, if grades would be an issue for admission to LSU, why would they not be for La Tech, too. Aren't NCAA academic requirements standard for public colleges? I get that private institutions may have higher requisites, but public ones should be the same, right?

The NCAA sets standards that are a minimum for all universities.

Each Conference sets their own requirements above that of the NCAA.

Each University can set theirs anywhere they see fit as long as they meet to the NCAA and Conference standards.

If Broussard can get into Tech he's going to dominate. Dude is an SEC caliber athlete for sure.

Is it me, or have we been really clear with our intentions this recruiting season? We seem to be really, really turning off prospects that we consider to have red flags this year.

When I say this, I'm thinking about Storm Johnson, Terrance Broadway, and a few other kids who have been outright in saying would come here if offered, only to receive no love from LSU in return. Even going back to Eddie Lacy or Christine Michael, it seemed like either would've worked as a backup plan when Pratt fell through, but we may have already turned them off by that point.

I'm all for Les and his staff having a discerning eye, but sometimes it's nice to take a chance on these high risk grades guys, at least as fallback plans. I understand why that is not a very popular opinion in the Post-Perrilloux Era (PPE from here on out) but at some point we're gonna have to keep up with the "arms race" that is being perpetuated constantly by Kiffin, Saban, and Meyer, or as I like to call them, "The Three D-Bags". These D-Bags will stop at nothing to win, even if it means pulling a few strings to get a kid qualified. I applaud that Les stops just short of nothing, but I still hate it when we fall short of beating those douches on Saturdays.

I'd hate to lose a potential impact guy with a name like Broussard to a team like Tennessee. Got to keep them out of our state so they can continue mining Georgia and Alabama instead.

I get what you are saying and agree to an extent but now is not the time to take too many risk because of the attrition we have had the past few years IMO. Our line is suffering right now from things that happened 2 and 3 years ago and an experienced QB could make a world's of difference if we had someone in place of RP.

Storm was impatient and not about taking risks like Lacy was. Christine and Broadway were passed on talent evaluations.

We can already see LSU made a good choice not spending too much time on Risean because he himself understands his grade situation and has to go to La Tech. I could see him changing his mind again and going JUCO.

Now we have a 28 signing limit. We have to be even more cautious with those boundaries especially if we continue to see high rates of attrition. That only leaves 3 possible guys to have as backups in case some can't get qualified.

I know of 2 current commits that still have work to do to get qualified: Simon and Mathieu and I think there is another who I can't think of. So we are still taking some in-state chances but a lot less compared to previous years. Last year was an exception with all 24 qualifying which was a goal for the staff last year.

Thanks for your reply. I realize every situation is different, and it's a recruit by recruit basis on whether these risks are worth taking. Just seems like for whatever reason, when we aren't interested in a kid we tell we tell them we aren't interested very early in the process, instead of keeping them hanging on as back up plans.

That might be more fair to the kids in the long run, but I'm sure a few must initially resent LSU. Just something I observed is all.

You are correct. Some kids don't understand the process and start resenting but LSU also benefits from the same happening to out of state prospects. So it works both ways. It happens to every big program multiple times a year. Hell, Storm must hate about 4 schools right now because we are not the only ones who asked to be patient after listing them as the favorite.
