"Though lacking in notoriety, LSU is getting a multi-talented and athletically-gifted player, according to his coach, one capable of recording a bench press of 315 pounds, squatted 500 pounds and posted a vertical jump of 29 inches. Blackmon also plans to major in forensic science and LSU’s respected forensics department proved to be another plus for the Tigers."

“First of all, Dexter is a fine young man, he has great character,’’ Davis said. “He works extremely hard. He’s a very, very good athlete. He’s definitely going to be an asset to the LSU program. Coaches always are looking for good players who are good people and he definitely is going to bring that to the table.’’

So much for the oddness of this recruitment. Makes perfect sense to me now.

A 315 bench isn't outstanding. His squat is pretty good. I'd like to see him at 375+ bench and 575 squat by the time he enrolls at LSU.

A big guy like him should be lifting some serious weight.

Re: DE Dexter Blackmon COMMITS to LSU!

Well, there aren't many Dorseys that can do both. Hopefully Davenport is one of those. It sounds like Freak Johnson is one of those, we need to get him. There MAY be 2-3 DTs nationally in this class that compare to Dorsey/Freak, those guys are just hard to find.

I'm not saying we are going after two smaller DTs. Just saying that we are looking more at guys like Drake Nevis, who are 290lbs or so and probably can play both run and pass effectively. This Blackman guy is already 250lbs or so, and I'm sure can put on a ton of weight to maybe get up to 290lbs (that's just a guess, but it sounds plausible with how raw he reportedly is physically).

My only point was that there aren't many teams that try to run btw the tackles, so it makes no sense to have 2 Terrance Codys out there starting. Every team we play besides Bama basically runs some version of the spread. Notice how Cody was basically useless for Bama against UF and Utah last year. And he would have been useless against LSU if we had a competent QB.

O.K., I'm with you. I don't want just a space eater. I like a DT that can penetrate the backfield. Cody can do that for 2 plays and then he needs a rest because he needs to catch his breath.:hihi: I really don't know how much weight Dexter can put on because I haven't seen his picture.

Put me on that page too. I trust the coaching staff on this one.

    Yep.

During ESPNs coverage of SEC days, they put up a viewing of top recruits for the top SEC teams so far and listed 2-3 recruits for each team. For LSU, they listed JAllen, EReid, and TYRANN MATHIEU. So, in less than a week, TMathieu goes from a head-scratcher to one of our top recruits. Gotta trust the coaches on their evaluations, not the services who rate them.
