Re: DE Dexter Blackmon COMMITS to LSU! Here is his hometown paper saying he is not that small. Who knows what to believe? Selma Times-Journal | Selma DL Blackmon commits to LSU
Re: DE Dexter Blackmon COMMITS to LSU! I am much more worried about the pitiful pass rush we had against Troy and other games last year, than teams running the ball down our throat. Think about this, which teams in this conference play power football besides Bama? Florida is finesse, Auburn is finesse, Miss St going to spread, Ole Miss is gimicky with the Wild Rebel, etc. College football is going to spread offenses and away from power offenses, and it was time for LSU to adjust to that on defense. I would still like to have some size as well, but it appears that LSU is focusing on pass rush over run defense. Also, Chris Davenport is a run stuffer. Freak Johnson will be a run stuffer if we get him. Chuck Hunter from West Monroe next year is a pure 300lb run stuffer type. Maybe LSU has looked at next year's crop of DTs and realized that they will be able to get the size they need then. Who knows. Also, if needbe, you simply bring a big safety like Loston up to stop the run against a team like Bama. Once Julio leaves, they don't really have a WR yet who can really beat you.
Re: DE Dexter Blackmon COMMITS to LSU! The only thing I can say is he must have looked good to get an offer. Can't really form an opinion of the guy with nothing to go on but his name and his height/weight
re: DL Dexter Blackmon COMMITTED to LSU Good looking kid If I'm looking at the right picture on Rivals.
Re: DE Dexter Blackmon COMMITS to LSU! You have good points about Davenport and the next year's crop of LA talent. Everyone already knows we are trying to get a speedier defense because of the spread offenses and it is true. However, just because a guy is close to 300lb's doesn't mean he can't be a great pass rushing DT. I give you Glenn Dorsey. You need push in the middle on a pass rush more than anything to collapse the pocket so the QB can't step up. Often Def Coordinators don't want there DT's abandoning their lanes too much or the QB simply scrambles up the middle for a first down or has wide open sight lines to throw a completion. No, you can't convince me we are better off going to two smaller DT's. They need to be big enough to hold their ground when double teamed, and protect our new quick LBers so they can roam freely. As far as bringing up our safety, we don't want to do that unless we have to because it is a disadvantage. This whole conversation may be a moot point if Blackmon turns out to be huge because I haven't seen a picture yet and we are obviously getting conflicting reports.

re: DL Dexter Blackmon COMMITTED to LSU I just read a couple of Blackmon comments and two are really funny. Becaust there's limited info on this guy, a lot of recruiting nuts are scratching their heads real hard...so the prevailing sentiment is "Why take this guy that has no background, no film, no ratings info?" ... So someone said that LSU's coaches saw this kid in person at the camp and unlike the rest of us they have resources other than Dandy Don, rivals, and scout.:hihi:. Another guy speculated that Les Miles must really want someone named "Dexter" on the roster and it didn't work out too good last year..
