Gibson's team lost 28-23. I watched from Q2 to the end -- apparently, Gibson started at QB but then moved out to WR and the #2 QB came in. I'm probably not a good evaluator of talent, but I wasn't impressed. Gibson did make a couple of nice catches and he did save a TD on an int by running down a CB, so speed seems to be there. However, I also noticed him put up a what I would call a very weak attempt at downfield blocking on a screen. We'll see. :geaux:
As a Safety or WR he will be more than fine. Right, now he is the whole team and that team is one of the best in Bama year in and year out.
That was easily Gibson's worst game of the year, BY FAR. The defense they faced had a lot to do with it but Gibson is much better than he showed last night. He's a stud athlete and just the kind of sleeper who can develop into a star. Lets see what he can do here but dont judge him on last night. You would be making a mistake. I've seen him play several times this year and he's always been the best player on the field.
I haven't spent much time on Gibson since he committed early and hasn't wavered. But I just watched his video again after a long time. He's fast, has good vision and seems like he understands naturally where the "seem" is going to be. I'm not sure why he wasn't rated higher, particularly since he has good size and excellent speed (sub 4.5, according to one site). Anybody know why he didn't rate well?
Although I don't buy the Bama/USC angle, I definitely think his solid and early commitment had something to do with it. The other thing I am wondering: since he's never played defense, and only plays WR occassionaly, is the fact that he's being recruited for S or WR the reason?
The only time you ever see ATH being ranked high, is because they're extremely elite. In most cases, though not all, it's a QB moving to eithe RB, WR, or S. We see it with ware, and have seen it plenty of times, ex: Pat White and possibly Shep.
