That school is stacked and this year he should get tons of touches. I think he'll end up as a 4*. He also was reported to have ran a legit 4.31..

He's likely a KR/PR/gadget guy at the college level. But.. if we miss on Lache we will need a speed back.. and he wouldn't be a bad idea.

Maybe I disagree with the masses, but I don't think we need a speed back. Lache is special and not tiny, so I am not speaking about him. However, I think we place too much emphasis on the need to have different types of runners every year. Miles has favored power runners, for example, Hester, and Scott. We already have Trindon, Murphy, Shep and Calhoun as change of pace possibilities if we want them. IMO we should take the best 2 or 3 rbs available this year and not worry about what differences they bring to the table. I believe we are too elite a program to sign a speed guy and simply find a starting spot for him at another position. Unless they are an outstanding punter or kicker special teamers are a dime a dozen. We even have issues with Trindon returning punts because he drops a few.

Well said Tboy....i tend to agree. I don't think you seek these players out or take these players to fill needs. In my opinion, specialty "speed" players like Trindon are gimmick guys. I don't consider Shep or Richard Murphy gimmick guys. They are more Percy Harvin like. Top athletes that can be utlized in differnt ways. Take a guy like Trindon. I love that guy, but he's nothing more than a gimmick type RB/WR and kick returner. Nothing wrong with that, but we aren't gonna go out of our way, or bump another power/true RB for a player of this type. So, if that is all this guy Lamb would be used for, I would hope Miles and the coaches would exhaust all RB options before filling a spot with him.

    Sorry for the mini rant.

Trindon is gone after this year.. Murphy is gone next year (and hasn't proved he's an SEC caliber starter). Shep is probably the best suited out of those you mentioned at RB.. and I for one would love to see him there -- but the problem is to use him correctly.. it means giving him as many touches as

We'll have Ridley, Ford, Storm Johnson.. all 3 big "carry the load" type backs. Which are excellent.. but you need a change of pace back late in the game when the defense is tired.

I'm a huge proponent of special teams.. and having a home-run threat returning kicks and punts can win you games. That's why I think having speed-backs are important.. they do so much more than just bounce a play outside. Besides.. most of the 'speed backs' are excellent athletes and it's not hard to convert them to DBs or WRs.

You can convert them, but chances are they will not start for LSU in the near future. This is not a Tiger team from the past where Eric Martin or Josh Reed moved from RB to WR. We can recruit premier WR's and CB's that may have experience at those positions and are among the best in the country. We can pick the best after watching their technique, backpedaling, route running, etc. at our camps. Who was our last speed RB that we brought in to play RB that later converted and started as a DB or WR? You can't count Doucet because he was recruited as a WR and he wasn't that fast anyway.:hihi:

Richard Murphy maybe :hihi: It's the ATH position more than anything.. and our coaching staff seems to favor ATHs this class.

I like having 2-3 capable RBs.. give them the hot hand. Say a team like Bama is stuffing the run between the tackles but is getting eaten alive by the misdirection.. a faster RB can do some damage.

I like variety  I do love a big back though.
