If we don't beat Bama and Ole Miss who cares about our SOS. We could get a pass losing to Florida in a close game, but if we beat everyone else we will be just fine.
I think you're on to something. We'll name it the "BCS". - Seriously though, these schedule rankings will change as the season progresses...and the BCS will sort it out. Not a proponent of the BCS...just saying...that's how it'll work out. You guys saying we're playing 4 top 25 teams need to remember that a lot of folks thought they were padding their BCS by playing LSU last season. Turns out, not so much. After OM and Bama fall far short of their overrated expectations, our schedule won't look so tough. But the resurgence of Arky may help some.
No man, seriously, I could come up with something that made much more sense than the BCS. But there is no perfect solution. Anyway, these SOS issues won't really solve themselves because the fact remains that playing a bunch of mediocre teams is statistically better than playing some really strong teams and some cupcakes (under most SOS equations). I happen to disagree with that. At the same time, if LSU isn't in it, I lose interest pretty quick.
As do I, but later in the season. My point is that LSU has a tall order with Bama, Ole Miss, UGA and Florida (twice) in order to get to the dance. SoS is not the problem this year. The f'in schedule is the problem.
In regards to politicing and whatever, and as a fan of LSU, I always say just play the games and the BS system will do what it will do. I may not like it if we make it that far and get screwed, but that's the system we signed up for. May Miles play it to the best of his ability if the need arises. Until then, I could care less. I just love LSU football, like I know most of us here do, and enjoy every weekend for what it is. I used to do a computer ranking which got me interested in all that stuff like SOS. I'm interested in it independent of LSU.
depends. if youre a top program, Team A's schedule is tougher because you have 3-4 games that you have a good chance of losing. but if you are an average program then Team A's schedule is easier because there are a few games you should win while you would likely lose all of Team B's games.
I of the mind that beating really good teams is worth more than beating a lot of ok teams. I also believe that losing to really good teams shouldn't hurt you as much as losing to mediocre (or worse) teams. The gray area comes when team A loses to really good teams and team B wins against decent teams. Which is better? I use margin of decision to help out.
:geaux: Interesting that Florida is 38, the Gumps 68 and Old Piss 77. They're all saving themselves for us! :hihi: :LSU231:
