We are never going to get over these crappy crappy calls... I know all the other SEC fans probably complain about this as well... but just think of some of the biggest calls / no calls out there

1- LSU / Auburn (flag thrown for pass interference then waved off)
2- LSU / Alabama (Patrick Petersons int) this was just wrong
3- LSU / Auburn (leverage call) I mean really
4- LSU / Alabama (i don't know how many of your remember the year after we got the tvs in tiger statdium... alabama punts to lsu we recover the punt they call it alabamas ball... luckily after a few minutes of the big tv playing how lsu maintained possession of the ball the ref changed his mind after looking up at it... and that was before replay...

    Hey ref (you suck)
    hey ref (you suck)
    Heeeeeeyyyyy ref (yoooooooooou suck)

    love this cheer

the list goes on and on... when will they do something... never... ever since LSU beat Tennessee in 2001 and took them out the national championship game we have seen a major shift... not saying there wasn't bad refs before but it has just seemed to get worse and worse even with instant replay

That was my screen saver for the longest time. Personally i think the SEC would be alot better off if they started employing refs that have absolutely no affiliations with any school in the SEC. Wait, its pretty much already like that except they are all from Alabama.

Agreed! Yet again this is where common sense fixes a problem that certain people (gumps) do not want fixed.

For the life of me I can't find the link if it still exists. But I remember reading a couple of years ago about the NCAA having a pretty serious shortage of officials in all sports, and that they'd desperately try to recruit among, for example, former HS players who weren't going to continue their football careers.

Anyway, the article mentioned this one official who's been in the SEC forever who actually is a Bama graduate. Even if they don't let him officiate Bama games, having him work SEC games is such a massive conflict of interest that I'd never allow it.

Remind me, where are the SEC offices located? I think that will answer all questions regarding the SEC officials and their favoritism in certain games.

How do we elevate this to national media to the point it gives the conference office a black eye?

We know this will continue unless their hand is forced. A few comments on a message board won't change anything. We need the national media to scrutinize each game in hopes of forcing the SEC to take action.

    Currently we have the following:

    1) Incompetent officials
    2) Cheating officials
    3) Both

Convince some Arkansas fan to hold a group of SEC officials hostage.

NCAA referees are part-timers whose main occupation is something else. Part of the problem will never go away unless the referees are paid full-time salaries and held accountable to the NCAA, not any conference. College football is big business now, and the money is there to pay for professional referees. There is enough work to keep them busy in the fall. They can work spring practice scrimmages and participate in referee seminars in the off season, watching a lot of film, and getting all on the same page on calls. many can referee other sports, too. They can actually study and practice at being better referees. If it is their occupation and they are paid well for it, they will take it seriously and play calling will improve across the board. Best of all they can simply be fired and hired based on performance.

There are probably people who would make excellent referees but they don't have an occupation that allows them enough time to work the NCAA circuit and still make a living.

It makes sense that these men would then have a very deep appreciation for whatever "gratuity" comes their way.

    But you knew that. :thumb:
