Call me crazy, but I think LSU has a Damn Strong chance at the SEC title. Biggest obstacle I see is Ole Piss and UF. Maybe even NC?

Any thoughts on contention for these titles?

It depends on a few things, like how quickly our players learn the new defense, whether we see good QB play or not, and how big of an impact this freshman class makes.

It's not a reach at all that these things go our way. Considering how poorly our defense played, getting the players to buy into a new system shouldn't be a problem. Our QBs will have a whole extra Spring/Summer to develop, and this recruiting class may be the best ever, which would certainly indicate their ability to make an early impact.

Ole Miss should be our biggest competition for the West and I don't think they'll be better than this year, but Bama & Arkansas will be good as well.

If Harvin & Tebow come back, Florida should have another great year. Tennessee will be good, but not great.

If no underclassman goes pro for FLA they will be favored again, and barring injuries should win the SEC. Why? They have their entire defense returning according to the depth chart I looked at. On offense they only have one receiver and 2 OT's leaving. So only 3 out of 22 starters are leaving. It would be great if Tebow and/or Harvin left.

I see Ole Piss as our biggest obstacle. Snead's QB play will be the X-factor if he has a good game it could be long night for Tigers. I say D steps up 10 fold dont think it will hinder us as much this year i.e. missed tackles missed assignments and all that jazz...

LSU and Arkansas have the toughest 2009 schedule against the East, while Bama and Ole Miss have the easiest:

    LSU: Florida, Georgia, Vandy

    Arkansas: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina

    Auburn: Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky

    Miss St: Florida, Vandy, Kentucky

    Bama: Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky

Ole Miss: Tennessee, South Carolina, Vandy

SEC Champs, yes. Beyond that I don't think that any of the SEC is going to be in contention for the MNC.

I believe that the SEC is going to have several 8 + win teams, possibly 6 - 7, with the best teams only being 10 - 2. I think that LSU, UF, OM, ARK, USC, UGA, UT, and Bama are all going to be very good. The Barners, UK, and Vandy are going to hold there own. I really think that the SEC is going to beat itself out of MNC contention over the next 3 - 4 yrs. There are going to be way too many too good teams. This yr the SEC may have been down, but I think over the next few yrs we are going to see this conference be stronger from top to bottom than we have seen in a while.

I see the secondary as a strong point on the defense next year. Everyone has plenty of experience and plenty of talent. Linebackers will be stronger as well overall - even without Beckwith.

IMO - comes down to QB, OL, DL for LSU. And, I'm really mostly concerned with QB and DL.

SEC is too tough to make guarantees. But if the our QB, OL, and DL are solid - we have a chance to compete for SECCG. And if we're lucky - like in 07 - then maybe more!
