Shockey: 50 rec. 483 yards 0 TD Has baggage $3 Million annually
Miller: 45 rec. 579 yards 1 TD No baggage $955k annually

INDIANAPOLIS - The Saints have made their contract tenders to restricted free agents Jahri Evans, Lance Moore and Leigh Torrence, General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed on Friday.

They are also close to signing veteran tight end Dan Campbell, though the deal has not yet been confirmed.

The Saints made the highest possible tender to Evans - a one-year, $2.792 million offer - which means the Saints would receive both a first- and third-round pick as compensation if their starting left guard signs with another team. They also have the option to match any deal he signs with another team.

They offered Moore a one-year, $1.545 million deal, which means they would receive a second-round pick as compensation if the starting receiver signs with another team and they don't match the offer.

They made the lowest possible tender to Torrence - a one-year, $1.01 million offer, which does not include any draft-pick compensation since the backup cornerback entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2005. They still have the option to match any deal he signs elsewhere, though.

The Saints also plan to make a tender to restricted free agent offensive tackle Zach Strief - likely with second-round compensation - but they have not done so yet.

Each one of the tenders is a calculated gamble of sorts. The Saints don't want to let the players get away, but they also don't want to overpay if they can avoid it.

I agree with Cajun Sensation concerning both Bush and Shockey. For some reason Payton seems to have a fascination with TE's. He has acquired one almost every off-season. Trading away a high round draft pick on Shockey was a huge mistake. We have defensive needs and will pay the price in this year's draft because we lack the picks available to address those needs. The bottom line is Brees spreads the ball around so much that we don't need a high priced problem child TE that will give us 1000 yds. receiving. We just need an average low priced TE like Billy Miller who will catch the ball when Brees throws it to him.
Gentlemen, for what we are paying Reggie Bush he is a bust. He will never, ever, ever be an every down back. Years have gone by and he has not progressed from his rookie year. He is often hurt, he fumbles because he will not hold the ball securely, but swings it wildly. He has no leg drive. He runs east and west or backwards and takes too many negative yards--the kind that stall drives. His yards per carry has consistently been at the bottom of starting RB's. He couldn't carry Brian Westbrooks jock. The only positive I can give him is that he is a good receiver for a RB. We need to get rid of his huge salary as soon as possible. Deuce was 10 times the RB Bush will ever be. The Saints do have better production when Bush is out of the game and the stats back it up. However, Payton feels the need to use him if he is healthy--big mistake. He needs to go--now--the sooner the better. I hate to be wishy-washy about my feelings.

The Shockey deal was a bad idea from the get go, but not because the Saints couldn't use a really good TE. It was a bad deal because he is a total head case and a team destroyer. Giving up draft pick(s) for him is just unbelievably stupid. The Saints have needed an upgrade at TE for some time and it would only make them and Brees better.

Everything was going swimmingly for Saints wide receiver Adrian Arrington as a rookie.

The tall, speedy product from the University of Michigan had been tabbed by the Saints in the seventh round of last year’s draft after the Saints swung a deal with the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2009 sixth round draft choice. The minimal investment was looking to be a bullish one for the Black-and-Gold and even threatened to pay immediate dividends, a rarity in both today’s shaky financial market and often times just as rare when dabbling with late round draft choices.

Arrington, who declared for the draft as an underclassman, caught 109 passes for 1,438 yards and 16 touchdowns while at Michigan. He immediately opened eyes during the Saints’ rookie camp following the draft with his ability to make plays not only across the middle of the field, but also down the field. He then parlayed the successes he experienced in the rookie mini-camp and flashed the same abilities in the team’s entire team mini-camp a month later and throughout the team’s organized team activities.

Despite heading into the mini-camps on a team deep at the wide receiver positions, Arrington appeared to be carving a niche and a role out for himself that he thought was sure to continue to blossom throughout his inaugural season in the professional ranks.

“He opened eyes around the locker room pretty quickly,” said veteran quarterback Mark Brunell. “He’s big, strong and fast and has great hands and he was catching the ball all over the field. I wasn’t too shocked the one-day during training to look up in the huddle and see him listening in to get the play. He fit right in to a pretty strong group of receivers. He didn’t seem like a rookie to me.”

In training camp Arrington became a favorite target of Saints quarterbacks and had people talking that the Saints appeared to have unearthed another late draft find,...

At this time last year the Saints’ fleet-footed cornerback was making pre-draft visits all around the NFL and trying to get a feel of when and where he might be drafted by any of the 32 NFL teams.

“On the visits they are trying to get to know you better as a person and what motivates you and what kind of guy you are,” Porter said. “And, you’re trying to get a feel for what they’re thinking and how you may fit into their draft day plans.”

“When I visited the Saints, I thought to myself, ‘this would be too good to be true,’” the Port Allen native said of the potential to play close to his hometown and for the team he grew up rooting for. “I wanted to come back home and play, but honestly, I had no idea where I was going. There are a lot of smoke screens out there and you hear the stories of teams bringing guys in and then not drafting them, and you hear stories of players that had no idea a team was even interested in them getting selected by them.”

Porter’s uncertainty ended on the first day of the 2008 draft when his phone rang and Saints Head Coach Sean Payton informed him that the Saints were taking Porter with the 40th pick overall.

“I remember it well and was thrilled when my phone said ‘New Orleans Saints,’” he said this morning after his morning workout. “I was with my friends and my family and it turned out to be a very memorable day. A great day.”

Saints QB Drew Brees said he was stunned by the rapid development he witnessed from Porter in such a short period of time. “The first thing I saw was his athletic ability and speed,” the veteran signal-caller said. “The transition you usually see for a rookie is usually pretty bumpy, but he was playing so well. In fact, he was probably making as seamless a transition from college to the pros as any cornerback I have ever seen.”

All the while Porter rested and began his rehabilitation process. He said his wrist is now back to full strength and he’s eager to once again battle for the spot in the starting lineup he reluctantly was forced to cede last season. “I’m lifting and pushing myself and trying to learn what our new defense will look like, it’s sort of like starting all over again,” Porter said.

So the starting lineup Im guessing will be:

FS: Darren Sharper
SS: Roman Harper with Chip Vaugh as a backup
CBs: Jabari Greer, Tracy Porter, Malcolm Jenkins

I think Roman Harper should be tried out as an OLB .
