Parso, Miles said during the bash press conference that he would take AT Least 2 RBs next year. That might be the quote you are talking about.
probably because a lot of those seniors don't have scholarships, so it doesn't affect recruiting at all if they leave.
Yeah I am not privvy to knowing which ones are on scholarships. Maybe someone can come up with a definitive list. My guess would be at least these: 2 Demetrius Byrd WR 6-2 195 Jr. TR Miami, Fla. (Miami Central HS/Pearl River CC) 48 Darry Beckwith LB 6-1 230 Jr. 2L Baton Rouge, La. (Parkview Baptist HS) 93 Tyson Jackson DE 6-5 291 Jr. 2L Edgard, La. (West St. John HS) 79 Herman Johnson OL 6-7 356 Jr. 2L Olla, La. (Denton HS) 55 Andrew Decker OL 6-3 280 Jr. 2L Holland, Ohio (St. John's HS/Toledo) 99 Marlon Favorite DT 6-1 302 Jr. 2L Harvey, La. (West Jefferson HS) 69 Sean Gaudet PK 5-9 166 Jr. SQ New Orleans, La. (Jesuit HS) 45 Quinn Johnson FB 6-2 238 Jr. 1L Edgard, La. (West St. John HS) 22 Jeremy Bunting WR 6-0 182 Jr. SQ Tioga, La. (Tioga HS) 6 Colt David PK 5-9 173 Jr. 2L Grapevine, Texas (Grapevine HS) 12 Quentin LeDay WR 6-2 193 Jr. SQ Opelousas, La. (Opelousas HS) 74 Brett Helms C 6-2 270 Jr. 2L Stuttgart, Ark. (Stuttgart HS) 27 Curtis Taylor S 6-3 200 Jr. 2L Franklinton, La. (Franklinton HS) 91 Charles Alexander DT 6-3 292 Jr. 1L Breaux Bridge, La. (Breaux Bridge HS) 47 Tremaine Johnson DE 6-2 282 Jr. 2L Galena Park, Texas (Galena Park HS) 30 Chad Baniecki FB 6-1 226 Jr. SQ Seton, Ariz. (Seton HS/Mesa CC) 63 Ryan Miller C 6-6 302 Jr. 1L Lake Charles, La. (Barbe HS) 62 Robert Smith OL 6-2 273 Jr. 1L Bossier City, La. (Airline HS) 37 Phillip Pigott RB 6-0 216 Jr. TR Pearl River, La. (Pope John Paul HS/Mississippi College) 19 seniors, actually of which 15 should be on scholarship. Is Smith and Gaudet on scholarship? I would think so. So that's 15 minimum. You add in Pittman, that makes 16 minimum. 5-6 from attrition (20 percent) jacks that number up to 21-22. To stay in the teens as Henson professes means we lose only 3 or fewer to attrition. That's fantastic if that happens.
If he has a big year I wouldnt doubt Francois leaving early. I feel confident in the OL for the future with studs Barksdale and Jones being only sophmores next year. Plus there are some other talented recruits from the last few years. So I dont see it being a major need next year, of course you always need some OL prospects. I really think DL and LB will be a big focus next year.
I'm pretty sure Smith isn't on scholarship, so we're at 14 scholarship players that we lose to graduation (counting Pittman). I doubt we lose more than 6 players through attrition (4 would be my guess), plus anybody that grayshirts this class would take away from next year's scholarship limit.
I have not spent a lot of time looking at 2009 out of state recruits. I do think it will be interesting to see how many schollies are available for next seasons class. There are too many variables to make an accurate prediction but I think it is a safe bet that the coaches will find at least 20 schollies for 09 recruits. With that said the number of 09 committs will be more limited. I think about 13-15 Louisiana recruits will be signed. LB: Tahj Jones; Bark Mingo; and Montrell Conner; also East St. John has a player that I think projects as a LB who may get an offer (singlton ????) DT: two studs and probably the only DTs that will sign in this class unless McFarland from TX wants to be a Tiger, Davenport and Sentimore. DB: Janzen is a big CB may project as a S; I think we will see at least 3 out of players signed a DBs. DE: Again I think we will see some out of state players signed at DE, but the Warmsley kid out of BR will get an offer and probably prject as a DE as opposed to LB. OL: Faulk and Ainsworth I have seen play and both should get offers and be Tigers. We should sign at least one if not two other OLs. TE: depends on who is available but unless a stud arises I dont think the Tigers will sign a TE. RB: I have read the debate between 2 or 3. I say 2. Lacy and Ford. They both have high ceilings and and with the depth at the position I dont see a need for a third RB especially with the limited numbers we will face. QB: should see one signed. but if Lee and Jefferson progress nicely the coaches may hedge their bets and go without a QB. If the coaches had their pick my money would be on McCarron out of St. Pauls in Mobile area. WR: Like RB i think the depth will limit the coaches to offering Randle and Bell. May see another offer to a top prospect. Roughly that would give the team a breakdown of LB -3-4 DT - 2-3 DE - 2-3 DB - 4-5 OL - 3-4 TE - 0-1 QB - 1 RB - 2 WR 2-3 Again that would put the team at 19-24 signees. with 13-15 being homegrown talent, dip in to TX for 3-4; FLA for 2; MS for 0-1; and AL for 1-2 that is a rough view of how i see the coaches approaching 2009.
I think LSU will have to sign 3 RBs if we can be assured that 2 will be qualified. Lacy has some work left in the classroom and was recently arressted for something. Not sure if it was minor or what but he has some character flaws and grades that need to be worked out over the coarse of the year.
