And he shut down well before the finish meaning that he should have a lot more left in the tank for the final. In doing so, not only did Holliday run the fastest 1st round heat in NCAA history, but he reclaims his title of "the fastest man in the history of football" from Florida running back Jeff Demps who went 10.01 in the Olympic Trials last year.
Under 10 would have been pretty fine needless to say! They have had blowers on the track and have been drying it off. Public Address announcer is saying track events will resume at 10:15. At 10:45 Women's 100 Semifinals will be one of the first. 1 LSU runner in heat 1, 3 in heat 2. At 10:55 Trindon will run in the Semifinals in heat 2, running in lane 5.
Trindon ran a 10.14 to qualify for the 100m finals, Friday at 7:45 Scary moment to start it off, Trindon jumped out of the blocks early. I didn't think false starts were allowed anymore, so either he wasn't officially set or a false start was allowed. ETA - The video shows the guy in lane 6 moved first and that triggered Trindon's jump. That runner was also disqualified, I must have been brain dead tired to have missed that the first time :/ Video - Trindon Holliday in the Semifinals Kenyanna Wilson and Samantha Henry qualified for the Lady Tiger in the 100m Finals In the Men's 400 Freshman Robert Simmons qualified for the Semis Armanti Hayes finished 4th in his heat and did not qualify :/
Friday night's televised coverage on CBS College Sports has been moved from 6 to 7. The times shown in the first post should be accurate within 5 minutes or so, and the online video link is working fine.
Congrats to Trindon. He came back this year saying he wanted a NCAA title under his belt and I am glad he got it. I am not happy that I got sidetracked and missed the event, however.:cuss:
What Trindon did in the 4x100 was PHENOMENAL. He started his anchor leg in arguably 7th place and got LSU a second place finish. Trindon’s closing technique has come a long way. The analyst calling the race just doesn’t seem to get that, even after seeing the anchor leg of the 4x100. Trindon seems to do even better taking the relay than he does starting from the blocks. If you can run professional track as a 4x100 specialist, I think he has a real shot. For the 100 meters Trindon had a fair start at best, but never panicked and just pulled away from the field to get 10 flat and win his first 100 meters NCAA title! If he hadn’t run in the 4x100 some 90 minutes before, he might have had just a little more to work with to go under 10. Still Trindon was a big part of getting LSU 18 points, I’m sure he is on cloud 9 right now! According to LSU's twitter entry - "Holliday's official time in the 100-meter final was 9.991, however times are rounded up to the nearest tenth of a second in sprint races." Henning got second place and 8 points in the hammer throw, that was great work by him. I don’t think LSU has enough point opportunities left to hang with Oregon, but hopefully second place will be doable… Video – Happy Hollidays
