First installment of Shep's diary, provided exclusively to TigerGumbo.com: I rode down with Barrett Henderson, the tight end heading to Texas, and another guy Stavion Lowe, who is committed to LSU. It was an interesting trip. We talked about a lot of stuff, but it was fun. I made it down here and the first people that I see that I really wanted to see were Andre Debose, Ray Ray Armstrong, and (Dyron) Dye. We've been kicking it since then. We've spent a lot of time together and it's been fun and everything. Another dude I wanted to speak to was Trent Richardson, and me and Trent sat down for a while and really talked kind of mid-day. We just talked a lot about just life in general. He's doing well. The guy that I talked to that was really fun to talk to was Sam Montgomery. We're building a relationship, and we're getting really close. This is the first time that we're meeting each other even though we've talked over the phone. I was really impressed with him. The three dudes that I really, really wanted to talk to, excuse me because I count the Sanford kids (Debose, Armstrong and Dye) as one, and then Trent Richardson and Sam Montgomery; I think we're getting all of them, plus more. They just said we're at an All-Star game, that we're here to compete and show our skills and prove why we're amongst the best players in the country. And to show that we have potential to be successful at the next level. (Former Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy was a guest speaker) It was cool to see the older, retired coaches that still have so much fire and so much will to coach and teach football. I cannot wait for practice tomorrow. I cannot wait to throw it to Andre Debose. I cannot wait to throw to Duron Carter. I've never had an opportunity to throw to some big-time receivers. I want to show people why I'm the No. 1 player in the country. My back is against the wall and I have to come out swinging. People are going to be coming after me left and right. I've been getting second-looks all night, people saying "Okay, that's the dude that's the No. 1 player in the country." Everybody is coming hungry, trying to show why they're the best. I'm looking forward to kind of defending my title. Two things are important to me this week. Of course, I'm coming down here, showcasing my skills, and doing what I need to do to defend my title. The second thing to me is to build relationships with recruits that LSU has an opportunity to get. I'm coming down here to help my future program get these kids. We have a month until signing day, and I'm just hoping to help pull these kids in. http://www.tigergumbo.com/index.php...ant-to-show-im-the-no-1-player-in-the-country
This kid is going to do nothing but succeed in whatever it he decides to do. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say Shep wins us a NC in his career. He's a special kid.
Here is a flashback video showing Ryan Perrilloux tearing it up in the 2005 Army AA game. Hopefully Shep is even more impressive in the UA game. http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/uncategorized/army-all-american-rewind-ryan-perrilloux-38250
