Regular season I see us 9-3, losing to Fla., Ga., and split with Bama/Ole Miss, if nothing unusual happens. Usually, I have taken the optimistic view and rated us one more loss if things don't work out, but this year, I feel there is more opportunity to the upside if things go well, I think we have a better shot at 10-2, than slipping to 8-4. We should contend for the west title.
I think that with a proper LSU defense THIS year, we would have only lost the one game to Florida and MAYBE a second to Ole Miss. Compound that with the hypothetical JJ playing at the level we saw in the bowl game and I say we split games with Florida and possibly play for a repeat. That's what we have to look forward to next year. Talent is not an issue. We are actually losing a few underperformers and a couple of bad attitudes and gaining some exceptional talent and character (it would seem). Inexperience will not be an issue, either because every player that will start next year with the exception of maybe one O-lineman saw significant time this year. Guys and Gals, I say we're set next year. If the team comes to play, we don't lose. At all.
These are my sentiments exactly. The key will be if Tebow and Stafford leave. If they leave we should win, if they don't it will be tough. Ole Miss is also a worry. They are looking good with Nutt at the helm. Their QB, Snead, will have another year of experience and McCluster is a real play-maker. That wild-reb-hog-nutria formation always gives us fits.
1. Regular season, 11-1, losing to Florida but Bama, Auburn and lefire: give LSU! fits. Rematch with Florida in Atlanta in the first week of December that  wins. 2. Well, let's just say it's sponsored by Citi and played a week into the new year. Or maybe I'm just drinking the P&G koolaid after that Chick-fil-a Bowl, who knows? 3. Florida in :tigerhead Stadium. Big atmosphere. Maybe prime time. Maybe Game Day. You know, just a normal LSU!-Florida game. 4. Don't laugh. Vandy. They'll have a ton of confidence off of this year it's early in the season and the :helmet: might just overlook them. Assuming no hurricane, right? Those frigging things can change a season almost as much as injuries. Um, yeah, that question mark turned out to be a bit bigger than most anybody thought it would be, huh?
I believe we're loaded with talent with more talent coming..... but I think that new coaches on the Defensive side of the ball will do several things: 1.) Shake-up the projected depth chart at a few key positions, i.e. DB. 2.) Re-focus our D because guys will competing for playing time 3.) Hopefully introduce a new scheme and teach someone to cover a WR 4.) One D-Coord 5.) Bring back nasty, 4-quarter-LSU-defense, i.e. - blitzes, turnovers, consistent pressure on the QB and hard hitting, physical play. My point- I really believe the new coaches (whoever they are) will significantly elevate our Defense for 2009. They will do things differently than this last group did, different kids will play and our team will be MUCH better. We have a shot at winning the West next year and possibly making it to a BCS game if we can split UF/UGA. So, I'm gonna say 10-2 plus whatever happens in our bowl game. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
RedElephant, Each year after we made our championship runs we have had a down year the next year. Saban 8-4 in 2004 ---and of course this year after 2007. You just can not lose your starting QB, and expect miracles right away. This year I knew the media was overhyping us. I really started this season believing that we would lose 4 games. We lost our QB, best RB, best WR, best DL in the country, two LB's, and even more important our two starting DB's of the last three year period. You lose a QB that has been a staple their, for what seems like forever. Not an easy task to overcome. You also lose the best OL in the country. I really am not sure who else you lose. Just prepare better than most of your comrades, next year, and expect a down year.
I think a down year is in the works for Bama. It might not quite be as bad as 2008 LSU because their defense is still going to be good, but I think they'll be third in the West behind LSU and Ole Miss.
:geaux: I expect The Chief will do wonders in helping our "D" neutralize the wild-nutria the Rebs are runnin'.:hihi: I've read where he had good success against it when the Vols played the Porkers and Nutt. :LSU231:
