I think the Tigers are going to be very hungry next year. That showed on Wednesday night. It almost seems as though the hard knocks of this season finally set in after the Arkansas game. Sometimes, you have to hit rock bottom before you can pick yourself up. No doubt fed up with the constant underachievemnet, LSU played with a fire and intensity that we've not seen this year against GT. They had something to prove. And they can be very successful if they allow that attitude to carry over into next year. Aside from that, look at everything that had to go wrong for us to have such a bad year. Starting with the dismissal of RP, the injuries to the QBs, the disastrous experiment of the co-DC's, the championship hangover...it took all of those things mounted against us and we were still 2 plays from being 10-3. But it appears at though Les is doing a spectacular job of addessing these problem areas. This fact, combined with a team attitude shift could make LSU extremely dangerous in 2009.
LOL...You dont read. The argument was that LSU would be "HEAVILY FAVORED" in the game... I disagreed...and gave a point. If this is the best point you can come up with to validate the agrument, you should take a few debate classes.
10-3 or 11-2 if we can a) really get it going, b) stay healthy and c) catch a break or two here and there. We can win the West next year, IMO. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
I agree with your post. Most of the problems are being addressed by Coach Miles. With Chavis coming in I'm hoping our defensive struggles are over schemewise. I'm sure that the attitude problems on the team are over. You won't see the meltdowns like Ark. That, I think, was the cause of our underperforming defense. Next year, we'll have a mix of youth and experience on D ( Peterson, Baker, Nevis etc. with the returning starters). We'll be a lot better at QB with Jefferson spelled by Shepard. We'll be real competitive coachingwise and talentwise-as good as anyone else in the conference. The big intangible is how the season progresses. An early season unexpected loss could have effects that linger into the next games. Look what we did after the Bama loss. Heck, look what happened to Bama after their Fla loss this year and the LSU loss last year. Another intangible would be the development of the redshirts (surprises/disappointments) You really never know about young players until they strap it on in real game SEC action. I guess we could have the distraction of another hurricane, but Coach Miles has proven how well he guides the team in dealing with that. I'm an optimist when it comes to Coach Miles so... 10-2 next year bowl VICTORY: orange biggest game: Florida in tiger stadium biggest trap: Alabama in Bryant-Denny (home town officiating) or Tulane (Good coach. They play well in spurts against us and, for them, had a good recruiting year and should have "some" depth. Every once in a blue moon they put it together against us especially when we have a big game the next week.)
I don't know what to expect next season. Looks like a completely new defensive staff will be in place. How well will that work? On paper it looks like it will work out very well, but championships aren't won/loss on paper. Will JJ continue to improve over the summer and be our definite starter? Based on the bowl game, it sure looks like it. Or will RS shine in the spring and take over? I doubt it, but you never know. With all this great talent we have and are bringing in, will the right players be on the field? Will Miles be stubborn and play seniority no matter what? With the surprise of this season, I'm gonna take a wait-and-see approach. I believe we have the talent to compete for a NC next year. But talent alone won't win championships. I'm glad the first game of the season is against a BCS opponent. We will get to learn very early what type of team we are gonna have next year. I think the bowl game performance will carry over to next year. The Tigers will be very hungry to prove that this year was a fluke. Can't wait.
