If Pirates gave Rosenburg money, he'd probably leave. But as it stands, from what I understand, Pirates can't give him the money he wants. Dumb move for them. Good for us. I've read rumors DJ might stay but I can't see that, hes going to get a lot of money and in Baseball, your stock lowers the longer you wait to go into MLB. Colvin already said hes coming to LSU. I expect if Rosenburg stays, we'll get our second starter to replace Coleman. Assuming another pitcher doesn't step up, like Ross. Which I'm hoping we see some big improvement from our other guys, Ross is a very solid third day starter, IMO. I'm worried about our power and speed next year though. DJ had a great glove, Mitchell could score off any hit and now we'll lose our two most powerful hitters in Dean/Schimph. Landry will have to be our power hitter next year. He certainly has the ability, he just needs to be more consistent in it.
P Mitchell Mormann goes in 20th round at #597 to Giants BTW, Deadline to sign with MLB is August 15th.
Landry's biggest problem at the plate comes from two things: 1. He needs to stop being a pull-hitter. His bat should emulate Ichiro by going with the pitch. This might cut down on his power stats initially but he'll go nowhere if he doesn't correct this aspect of his batting profile. 2. Follow the ball all the way from the pitcher's release to making contact with the ball. I can't say it simpler. As a former pro pitcher I kept a notebook on all hitters I faced. Knowing their tendancies made quite a bit of difference in how I pitched them. The best teachers I had were former pros who passed their experience on to me. Max Lanier - father of former Houston Astros manager Hal Lanier - was my favorite pitching coach of all. And his biggest advice to all high school prospects would be to take the scolly, get the experience to improve your chance to make it to the majors. I've posted the Omaha schedule on my side-deck door inside my house. In particular I'll be watching the Tigers winning games #2, #6, and #11. IMO, the Finals opponent with be either Arizona State or Texas. Pitching matters!:crystal::crystal::crystal::crystal::crystal: Making room for another :crystal: :geaux:
I'd imagine that for the possibly gone group, one factor that would influence them to go pro is if we win the CWS. I'd think that with that accomplished as a goal, you'd have to ask yourself "How can I top that if I came back?" The major factor for me would be...could I develop further and faster in the minors or in college. And by returning to college, how much will I improve my draft position (and sining bonus $$)? I'm assuming that the sheepskin is not that important.
