Mo Massaquoi is the most experienced receiver coming back. Goodman is also experienced and one of the fastest WRs in the SEC. Along with Harris and Durham, they will be the top 4 in the rotation. But Troupe is the guy who is going to be very special this year as both a WR and returner.
Perhaps a very beaten-up team, also. Bama still doesn't have the depth of its SEC upper tier competition and it takes depth to compete in the SEC.
Chip82, I definitely agree with you regarding Stafford and he would be my first pick among all SEC QB's if I were building a team from scratch. He's got great poise, leadership, and the arm-strength to throw the deep-out as good as any QB in the nation. The other QB that I think is going to surprise a lot of people this season is Jevan Snead - he looked fantastic in the spring game. However, your comments regarding Caleb King are simply out there. I remember UGA fans making similar claims - and rightfully so - about Jasper Sanks ..... and in hindsight he can be considered a near-bust. I've watched Caleb King play in no less than 10-11 of his high school games at both Parkview and GAC. I also followed his progress carefully last season at UGA as he was also recruited heavily by Auburn. King is a good solid RB, but he is not in Moreno's calber, and he certainly doesn't come close to measuring-up to Felix Jones or Ronnie Brown, especially since he hasn't carried the mail yet at the D-I level. IMO, CK has lost a step since the injury he sustained in his senior year. He might have had 4.4 speed, but i don't think he has it back just yet. I hope he eventually gets it back, but WADR .... he's simply not in the same league as the other players you mentioned ........
Richt has stated that King has picked it up over the past year and has been hitting the running lanes very impressively all Spring. Al Borges attended some of the UGA practices this Spring to help refine some of the mis-direction passing routes that King and Moreno will be using out of the new split back formation. If defenses key on Moreno, King is more than able to do some serious damage.
To be honest, the offense run by the new OC at Auburn will take some, "on the field," time to implement. Omar had the luxury of working into the system, but was still not able to beat any of the three SEC teams that Troy played last year. I look for Auburn to go about 9-3 this year. There are actually several QBs that can be considered to be a year away. Chris Smelley is going through some growing pains at present but will likely be very good in 2009. I still don't consider Ryan P to be a veteran. He was able to put together a solid game against the Vols, but will still have a bit of a learning curve to contend with. Being off the team for a while certainly didn't help his progress. This should be a wide open season in the West, but it will be between Georgia and Florida in the East.
