And he bases this upon seeing every SEC qb play? A bold statement to be sure. You may think having young receivers won't be a problem, but it's more likely to be a factor than not. Expectations will be huge on these guys and the schedule is ugly. Georgia will not be up to the task this year, though Stafford should have a great year in spite of all of this. He certainly has had the time to develop.
Unfortunately, we're still talking about college football. So.... Tebow is a gamer, and a mule, and if he stays healthy, he has a legit chance at the Heismann again. He'd standout in any NCAA system. Look, I don't like the guy. And I certainly don't like CUM or the Gaytors. But Tebow is an incredible college QB. As for arm strength, who cares? Might as well measure their howyadoins and use that as a comparison. Now, what he does with his arm (and legs, and eyes, and grey-matter) - that matters. I agree with Stafford as #2 for now. But RIGHT NOW, Tebow is in a class all his own in the SEC. Stafford will have to prove me wrong.
Josh Booty had a cannon, arm stength isn't everything. Football is the ultimate team sport, even with all the physical and mental tools, without a good line, running game and rec. corps. the best QB can struggle. Ga. having young rec. can matter, look at our rec.'s when they were starting out, Doucet, Lafell, etc. can suffer mental lapses on routes and the dropsies. I think it'll matter more than some think.
Good point. Not that he was "The best" but Flynn was sacked 26 times last year; E. Ainge only 3. Flynn attempted 329 passes; Ainge, 519.
From what I've read about the Spring, it looks like the starting WRs are solid but not spectacular. Moreno is obviously one hell of a back, and King was very highly recruited, so I don't see any problems with your running game. The only question is UGA's OLine.
I would definitely trade Perrilloux at this juncture if I could. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but to this point all he's shown is flashes of potential, with a lack of leadership. Burns will be adequate, but not spectacular. He will be dangerous in that offense their running now though. I expect Auburn to be a very inconsistent team with him at QB. The projected starter, can't remember his name, almost beat us in '06. He should be pretty good. I think Snead, the Texas transfer, is going to be a good one. I question how Nutt will use him, but I think he'll be one of the better QBs in the SEC this year. Stafford has been a bit too inconsistent for me to heap praise on him, but now that he's a Jr he should be much improved & the best "pro-style" QB in the SEC. He reminds me of John David Booty - a solid starter, but nothing special. The real question with him is if he'll mature & not put his team in a whole. Supposedly the new system at Bama is much more QB friendly, so we'll see how much that helps. Dick could very well be the worst starting QB in the SEC, and yet he should look pretty good in Petrino's offense.
Why does everyone think that Georgia will have young receivers? Only two redshirt freshman are listed within the top 8 WRs on the depth chart and they are both listed as #4 on each side respectively. Of the top 6, 3 are Seniors, 2 are Juniors and 1 is a redshirt Sophomore. Goodman sat out with a medical redshirt. That is not to say that there isn't some very good talent among the younger WRS, but they are certainly not in a make or break situation.
I look at it in this perspective. Moreno was up there (SEC wise) in all-purpose yards last year but there wasn't a single UGA receiver in the top 10 in the SEC for receiving. That would tempt a lot of coaches to stack the box because there isn't that proven wide-out. I don't know what depth chart you are looking at but what I've got has Kenneth Harris (Sr.,) Kris Durham (Jr.,) and then it's down to Hill and King. Like I mentioned earlier, a healthy rotation at WR, especially the way Richt/Bobo like to spread the field at times, requires btwn 6-8 solid guys. I've seen AJ Green play and I think he'll contribute in his frosh year. I'd be willing to wager he'll be a game breaker by the '10 season.
I think your offense will be great and AJ Green should contribute immediately. With that being said I bet you lose to Florida.
Dick wasn't used a lot last year with Nutt, but I'm thinking he turns some heads this year with people that discount his ability. I'd call him the most underrated QB in the SEC. Agreed on JPW and I like Stafford a lot...IF he gets that WR group I've been talking about. I'd say it's fairly clear that Auburn has its concerns about Burns and their passing game or they wouldn't have stressed it as heavily in spring ball as they did this year. He's got the legs, but it seems there is a significant question mark on his passing game. I'd say, at this point, putting 8 in the box will make that offense go stagnant on a few series. I haven't looked much at Snead and I wonder if he'll be making headlines in the fall. He looked good coming out of high school ball. The question I have is will Nutt let him do what he's capable of doing?
