NationalChamps.net has LSU as the presaeason #7 next year behind OSU, OU, UF, UGA, USC, and Mizzou. With LSU winning the West and UF the East. Click on LSU for a breakdown. One big mistake is on our projected depth chart which is all wrong. They should have Byrd and Toliver starting along with Lafell instead of Chris and Jared Mitchell. DL rotation is a mess as well with Ricky Jean not even listed. Big Herman is the only player projected to leave for the NFL early. http://www.nationalchamps.net/2008/earlybird/
I wish he'd stay. A little more.. growth (is that even possible?) wouldn't be a bad thing. Then again.. injuries are scary.
#7 eh? Hell that's no biggie.. We went from #7 to playing in the BCS Championship in a matter of hours..
The road schedule is rough next year -- Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina, plus Bama and Georgia at home. I'll be happy with a top-10 ranking next season.
I don't care what this poll says, you bet your freaking testicles or breasts (if you are female) that Southern Cal will be ranked #1 at the beginning of next year. It's like herpes...it just keeps on coming back and aggravating the H-E-double hockey sticks out of you!!! The media will FORCE you to bow down and say that they are a dynasty, and forever the most talented team in the land. :rolleye33: I am cool with 7, we can make some moves from that location.
I honestly believe we are the sleeper team for next years NC. The reason why is because our offense will be more wide open and not focusing on running it up the middle so much, we will have the backs who can get around the corner fast and the receivers to stretch the field. With RP arms and if he matures and learns to read defenses our offense is skys the limit. I think our defense with a good DC hire will be in the top 5 again. We just have to get our secordary solid, which I am not worried about with the last 2 recruiting classes at secondary, we should be really good if those guys play to their potential. I am excited about next year, i think we can have an even better season being a sleeper team and not with an X on our back every week.:geaux:
Winning the SEC West next year will be a terrific season, but very tough to accomplish. I think 09 (every other year) sets us up the best. Beating Bama at home will be the best win of the year in my book.
If we managed to beat Bama by 40+ and break their coaches leg tackling a back who ran a sweep to the sideline, it would be the best win of my life.
Not arguing, just offering a little opposition to this viewpoint. AU SHOULD be good, and it's always a crazy game between LSU/AU...but consider that their learning a new offense, with a new...YOUNG...inexperienced QB. I think we will match up better with them with our offense against their defense than we have in years past, and like I said, their 'O' is a questionmark. South Carolina??? Should NOT be a tough road game. More worried about MSU at home than USCe on the road. Arky? Without DMAC and Jones...both likely to forego their Sr season...I don't fear them nearly as much as I have the last two years. UF? Very tough road game...no doubt. All in all, I think the schedule THIS season was at least as hard as Next season's is going to be...especially considering our pitiful OOC schedule next year. I'm not saying we will go undefeated, but then again, I see no reason to believe we will have a worse record than we have had the past 3 seasons. I'm really excited about our offense, and I think our 'D' will be pretty good...especially with a couple of patsies to start the season...giving the 'D' time to gel.:thumb:
