Well, I'm just flat out disappointed with this move. So much for the crescent city connection. Hopefully these two new guys are gone soon. Hopefully the plan is to go for a more dependable center that is not injury prone.

I just can't seem to spin this positively in my mind! Sad!

I can spin it. The Hornets are losing major $$ this season and needed to lower budget.

Only way that is positive is if this move literally saves the franchise and it's future in Nola.

I see two immediate ways that this trade is good for the Hornets. First, you're essentially taking in two competent players who can contribute on both ends, who will replace someone that has given you exactly zero minutes since January 19th.
And even if Tyson had been around, because you're the thinnest good team in the NBA, taking in two guys to sop up minutes at a level just a step below Chandler's play will ultimately help more. Remember that second notion, Hornets fans, when Chandler has a 20-20 game against the Warriors in April. Your bench is cruelly poor.
Wilcox and Smith can play. Both are screen and roll masters, Smith can set a good screen and hit from everywhere, and Wilcox is a bit of an Amar'e Stoudemire-lite. Laugh at me now, but get the hell out of the way when he takes a bounce pass at the free throw line and starts driving right to the front of the rim.
Beyond that, the Hornets fans don't have much to look forward to. Losing Chandler, and even passing on re-signing Wilcox and Smith, will still leave New Orleans well over the salary cap. All this does is keep the team from paying the luxury tax, and there's nothing a fan can take from that.
But for now, things could be looking up for New Orleans. I mean that. Depth is a wonderful thing, and getting two scorers who will stay on the court and mesh well with the NBA's best point guard could be huge.
Following the "now?" You're well within your rights to rip on Hornets GM Jeff Bower. Bower has put together a great team, but a lot of that came down to making sure Chris Paul didn't fall any farther than fourth in the 2005 Draft. He overpaid both Peja Stojakovic and James Posey, choosing to offer a full MLE to Posey when it could have been utilized at positions (point guard and center) that were badly lacking last summer.
And ripping on Hornets owner George Shinn, for once, wouldn't put you in the right. Just about every owner in this league is looking to follow Shinn's example at this point, and cut costs.

Chandler: 8.8 points 8.3 boards per game + injured

Wilcox: 8.4 points 5.4 boards per game
Smith: 6.6 points 4.5 boards per game.

Lose 8.8 points and 8.3 boards
Gain 15.0 points and 9.9 boards + 6 extra fouls to give + salary cap flexibility.

has to be..he'll be gone after his contract expires anyways probably I wonder if Chris Paul would restructure his deal for a big time free agent in the sweepstakes when all the big names are free agents is it 2010?

Thursday, 12:30 p.m.: Shaq to the Cavs?
From SI.com's Chris Mannix: The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Cavs are in serious trade discussions with Phoenix for Shaquille O'Neal. The Cavs are believed to be offering Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic for O'Neal. "It makes a lot of sense," said one NBA executive who does not have direct knowledge of the talks. The sticking point is said to be Wallace, who has one year and close to $15 million remaining on his contract. Phoenix is believed to be more interested in Wally Szczerbiak, whose contract expires after this season.

Thursday, 11 a.m.: Pacers interested in Chandler
The big surprise of the morning was interest from the Indiana Pacers in making a run at Tyson Chandler, who was back in New Orleans after his trade to Oklahoma City had been rescinded. The Pacers could offer a combination of expiring contracts attached to center Rasho Nesterovic ($8.4 million), forward Marquis Daniels ($6.8 million) and point guard Jarrett Jack ($2 million), in addition to center Jeff Foster.

A potential trade for Chandler would come with a lot of luggage: Would he be able to pass his physical with Indiana, and would the Pacers -- who like a lot of teams are losing money -- be willing to take on salary and bump against the luxury tax ceiling next season? But Chandler would definitely improve the team in the company of a healthy Mike Dunleavy and All-Star Danny Granger next season.

Otherwise, the market was looking increasingly scarce just hours before the 3 p.m. ET deadline. Both the Cavaliers and Trail Blazers were running into dead ends in their search to acquire a big-time player in exchange for an expiring contract. Richard Jefferson had been pulled off the market by the Milwaukee Bucks, leaving Portland to mull over potential moves for Vince Carter or Gerald Wallace.

League sources were emphatic that the Cavaliers would be unable to pry Antawn Jamison from the Washington Wizards. This led to speculation that Cleveland may consider moving Wally Szczerbiak's expiring deal to Oklahoma City for the expiring contracts of big men Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith, which would have the dual effect of blunting efforts of the Boston Celtics to acquire Smith in a potential buyout after the trading deadline.
