For all the wacky, crazy, zany happenings throughout the course of the year, 2007 makes history in a few ways. As we have all heard, no other two loss team in the history of the BCS has ever played in the game. In the history of the BCS, no team has won more than 1 crystal football, and no conference has ever one back to back championships. Regardless of who wins, there will no longer be an absence of teams with no more than 1 BCS championships. If we win, we will be able to claim that distinction, and the SEC will be able to lay claim to being the only conference to win it in consecutive seasons.
Actually, the crystal football goes before the BCS - UF has one from 1996. However, you're right in that no one has won 2 in the BCS era. Incidentally, out of the major conferences, the SEC has the best overall record in the BCS bowls as a whole at 9-4, with the Pac-10 being second at 7-4. In case anyone cares: SEC 9-4 Pac10 7-4 Big E 5-4 Big10 8-7 Big12 5-7 ACC 1-8 the remaining games were WAC (1-0), MWC (1-0) and Notre Dame (0-3). My personal picks for this year in the BCS games would be: SEC 2-0 Pac10 1-0 BigE 0-1 Big10 0-2 Big12 1-1 ACC 1-0 WAC 0-1 but if the Hokies lose, can the ACC be demoted from major conference status? The WAC would have a better BCS record...
I like point about no one winning 2 championships in the BCS era.... several teams have played in multiple games, but no one has won twice yet. Oklahoma 3 appearances, 1-2 record (back to back losses) Florida St 3 appearances, 1-2 record (3 years in a row) Ohio St 2 appearances, 1-1 record USC 2 appearances, 1-1 record (back to back yrs) Miami 2 appearances, 1-1 record (back to back yrs) This will be tOSU's 3rd trip to BCS title game, and LSU's 2nd. The SEC is 3-0 in BCS title games. The Big 12 is 2-3. :crystal: :geaux: :crystal: :geaux: :crystal:
