Buth Davis-UNC... not a clue Fatboy- Notre Dame... recruits go their b/c its Notre Dame Mack Brown-UT...kids go there OR go to baylor or aTm, where would you go? Urban Meyer-UF...ehh, just did a great job, have to recruit against Miami and FSU, two known programs Petey-USC... Cali is stock full of talent, easy to get a number of kids to come to school there.. or they could go to Stanford.... RR-UM-same thing as Notre Dame, program, Big House, winningest program in CF history..
LSU is easy to recruit to. What happened to our class? Those places make recruiting look easy now, but outside of Zook none of the previous coaches were recruiting at the level that the current coaches are.(I wasnt really making a point, just messing with John and his lists)
Time for both 2007 and 2008 recruits to step up in 2009 and be counted. Perceptions can be deceiving when evaluating young, talented, competitive young men. But the development of character is IMO the most important trait. It is manifested in many ways on a good team but is omni-present on a great team. My top two for character evaluation are acceptance of (1) discipline and (2) responsibility. CLM doesn't need a P&G xray machine to discern these traits. However, a good eyeball-to-eyeball discussion about a young man's life is a must. Here's to a successful 2009 season. :geaux:
I'm sorry, but relative to the hype they received coming out of high school, Jai Eugene and Shomari Clemons have been tremendous busts. And Al Woods has been only slightly less of one.
Not yet, but the overall class? It's pretty much headed that way. And since you like stats, here are some for you. KW had a solid true freshman season, but after that he fell off. Except for the VT game, KW has been incredibly inconsistent. 2007 Mississippi State - 7 car 18 yds Virginia Tech - 7 car 126 yds (67 yard run) Middle Tennessee State - 5 car 30 yds South Carolina - 7 car 33 yds Tulane - 4 car 19 yds Florida - 9 car 46 yds Kentucky - 1 car 5 yds Auburn - 1 car 6 yds Alabama - 3 car 24 yds Louisiana Tech - 4 car 29 yds Mississippi - 5 car 41 yds Arkansas - 10 car 47 yds Tennessee - 5 car 34 yds 2008 Appalachian State - 6 car 24 yds North Texas - 4 for 17 Auburn - 2 car 8 yds Mississippi State - 3 car 15 yds Florida - 2 car 1 yd South Carolina - 15 car 72 yds Georgia - 3 car 30 yds Tulane - 13 car 51 yds Alabama - 13 car 88 yds Troy - 3 car 12 yds Mississippi - 4 car 11 yds Arkansas - 7 car 46 yds The guy was a 5-star, top RB in the nation and this is all we get? Those are the guys that you expect to get better and better, not more and more inconsistent. Just watching the guy, you can tell he doesn't know how to read blocks. It's like he's scared or something. If he doesn't have a break out season next year, he will definitely be a bust. Of course, LSU never knows when to go with the hot hand, so it could be more bad coaching than KW fault (where was Scott in UK game in '07). Al Woods was a huge get for Miles in '06, and has produced nothing thus far. Again, if he doesn't have a breakout season next year, he'll be considered a bust. And the Mitchells haven't shown much at all, mostly because they've been buried in the depth chart. With Toliver on the up and up, if Lafell stays, if we get Randle, and with Benton qualifying and Tolliver possibly getting playing time, only one of the Mitchells will rarely see the field. 2006, as a whole, has been very disappointing thus far. Just look at the players who transferred, were kicked off the team or left. I suppose we won't know for sure until after next season.
I like KW. But yes, I liked how you broke down the 2006 recruiting class for us, and it certainly doesn't look that impressive to me. All those guys are either true juniors or redshirt sophomores -- in other words, all those guys are in their 3rd year on LSU's team. You'd think more of them would be stepping up and impressing. Granted, all of those guys have next year to impress as seniors, and those that were redshirted have two more years to impress. Regardless, of those 24 recruits, there are only 4 that I have been impressed with so far: Dickson, Scott, Murphy, and KW. For another opinion, this is how NFLDraftScout.come rates the NFL prospects of the guys from our 2006 recruiting class: Offense #1 TE in 2010 Draft Class -- Richard Dickson #6 RB in 2010 Draft Class -- Charles Scott #13 RB in 2010 Draft Class -- KW #23 RB in 2011 Draft Class -- Richard Murphy N/A -- Chris Mitchell N/A -- Jared Mitchell N/A -- Ricky Dixon Defense #6 FS in 2010 Draft Class -- Danny McCray #9 CB in 2011 Draft Class -- Jai Eugene #15 DT in 2010 Draft Class -- Al Woods #22 OLB in 2010 Draft Class -- Jacob Cutrera #48 OLB in 2011 Draft Class -- Kelvin Sheppard N/A -- Perry Riley N/A -- Shomari Clemons N/A -- Lazarius Levingston (It appears they have upgraded the ratings, taking this 2008 season into consideration, being that they show that Byrd and KW dropped in the ratings, while Rahim Alem has gone up in the ratings). http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/college.php?DSTeamId=91&sortorder=tsxpos&order=ASC
I wondering how much this has to do with Les Miles and position coaches in not developing their players.
"Development" was the very argument many used to defend "Miles winning with Saban's players." Not sure where the truth lies, just thought I'd point that out.
