Here is the 2006 recruiting class: Jai Eugene - Huge disappointment thus far Al Woods - #1 DT in the nation has done nothing Richard Dickson - Had good sophomore season but bad junior season mostly due to QB problems Ricky Dixon - 5th or 6th string WR Charles Deas - Not on team; rumored as going to Auburn next season Charles Scott - Best player of the '06 class Danny McCray - is playing better when not getting burned; disappointing overall Troy Giddens - now with ULM Shomari Clemons - burried on the depth chart Jacob Cutrera - Has played decent when on the field this year Richard Murphy - Was expecting a lot more this season, but has been disappointing Perry Riley - Better of the 3 starting LBs this season, imo; marginal LB Kelvin Sheppard - Marginal at best Derrick Odom - kicked off of team for being an idiot Matt Allen - Transferred Zhamal Thomas - Not on LSU roster Mark Snyder - ACL ended career Lazarius Levingston - Burried in DL depth J.D. Lott - Left team before 2008 spring game Keiland Williams - Thus far has been a huge bust; once thought to be the next great LSU RB Jared Mitchell - has proved nothing Chris Mitchell - also has proved nothing Steven Singleton - Not on LSU roster Jason Teague - Not on LSU roster link Only 4 or 5 real, consistent contributors. Is it still too early to tell?
I think this class here is why CLM don't just hand out offers as freely as he did then. If a kids has questionable grade or attitude then he more than likely won't get an offer like they would in the past.
Nice post. The 2006 class is currently our juniors and our redshirt sophomores, and it was the first class that was 100% Les Miles. It's not completely surprising that the first recruiting class Miles was 100% responsible for at LSU wasn't that great... just like its not completely surprising when a great coach takes over a new team and doesn't do that great during his first season. Before coming to LSU, Miles had no experience with SEC recruiting (unlike Saban who had a lot of experience with SEC recruiting before going to Bama).
What about Butch Davis at UNC? What about Charlie Weis at Notre Dame? What about Mack Brown at Texas? What about Urban Meyer at Florida? What about Pete Carroll at USC? What about Rich Rodriguez at Michigan? Hope you're proud of me.
KW is not a bust. true junior 2008: #2 LSU RB by carries and yards, behind only Scott -- has 4.81 YPC true soph 2007: #2 LSU RB by carries and yards, behind only Hester -- had 6.83 YPC (RBs he beat out included C Scott and R Murphy) true freshman, 2006: #2 LSU RB by carries and yards, behind only Hester -- had 5.74 YPC (RBs he beat out included included Alley Broussard, C Scott, Justin Vincent) KW was a very solid recruit. As for Chris Mitchell: true junior 2008 -- #4 WR (behind Bryd, Lafell, T Toliver) true soph 2007 -- #6 WR (behind NFL-Draft pick Doucet, Bryd, Lafell, T Toliver, Jared Mitchell) true freshman 2006 -- #6 WR (behind NFL-Draft pick Bowe, NFL-Draft pick NFL-Draft pick Davis, NFL-Draft pick Doucet, Lafell, Jared Mitchell) As for Jared Mitchell: true junior 2008 -- #5 WR (behind Bryd, Lafell, T Toliver, Chris Mitchell) true soph 2007 -- #5 WR (behind NFL-Draft pick Doucet, Bryd, Lafell, T Toliver) true freshman 2006 -- #5 WR (behind NFL-Draft pick Bowe, NFL-Draft pick Davis, NFL-Draft pick Doucet, Lafell). I wouldn't write off the Mitchells just yet.
Butch Davis was 4-8 his first season at UNC (2007). Charlie Weis only beat two teams with winning records his first season: 7-5 Michigan, 8-4 Navy (2005). He hasn't done a whole lot better since then. Mack Brown was 9-3 his first season at Texas (1998). Urban Meyer was 9-3 his first season at Florida (2005). Pete Carroll was 6-6 his first season at Southern Cal (2001). Rich Rodriguez is currently 3-9 in his first season at Michigan. As for Les Miles, he was 11-2 in his first season at LSU (2005).
John, I really dont mean to bust on your azz this morning because this is now two responses directly related to your long winded statistical posts but, a very wise man once said: "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Do you believe this statement?
From the perspective that both Al Woods and KW have been disappointments (Al Woods especially), then yes I would say this class is very close to being considered a bust. But if Woods finally breaks out next season and KW can have a very productive senior season as well, all won't be lost. The 2 Mitchells were pretty much duds as well as Dixon.
Not all of these guys have lived up to their billing/ranking, but to call them a bust at this point is a pretty baseless statement...
Exactly. No way are Keiland Williams, Trindon Holliday, Shomari Clemons, and Richard Murphy "busts". Neither is Al Woods or Jai Eugene.
