I know it's very early, but what are ya'lls thoughts on how Miles is recruiting. He seems to be taking a much more national approach than Saban did. Is this good or bad?

Is it just me, or is LSU offering alot of people already that aren't "top" prospects?

Why is LSU trying to recruit another QB?? Do we need another one for next year?

I always thought Saban recruited nationally a bit, but I guess Miles is doing more of that?

You can never have too many QB's, I guess. Plus, you need a back up plan for two years from now if somehow Perriloux doesn't work out or gets injured.

Saban definetely recruited nationally, but seemed much more interested in Florida than Miles is, but Miles is all over Texas. We have a ton of scholarships for this year with the small class last year and the guys that we lost to transfers, signing another QB wouldn't be a bad thing, but just because we are recruiting QB's doesn't mean that we will get them. QB recruits will probably be scared off for a year (or even two) because of RP. As for the "top" prospects part, the only questionable guy at this point is Livingston, but he has great size, and apparently would've been rated a lot higher if he didn't get injured last year, he could be steal.

Miles is doing fantastic so far imo. The high school coaches really really like him and the parents just love him. Saban would have taken a QB this year too imo, Russell may decide to leave early, Reever is transferring, Flynn could decide to transfer if JR or RP beats him out, plus RP thinks he could play in the NFL right now.

No kid that has gotten an offer so far is any less of a recruit than in past years, if anything Miles is slow playing some of the best players in the state.

This Matt Allen guy is going to be highly recruited, this is coming straight from the mouth of Crabtree and the other guys who rank at Rivals after watching his tapes. All you gotta do with Cutrera is watch him play, he's a stud 4 star LB, and we all know about Boudreaux. Word on the street via the high school coaches in the Ruston area is that Livingston could be the best DL in the state, he's a freak of nature that had an unfortunate (but not career threatening in these days) injury. Wait until he camps somewhere, then we'll see how he ranks out.

Our D-Line recruiting has the potential to be downright scary this year, any of these guys could sign:

    Jonathan Hollins, DE
    Marcus Tillman, DE
    Lazarius Livingston, DE
    Al Woods, DT
    Chaz Washington, DT
    Jarrod Shaw, DT

And those are just the guys who will definetely get offers, and I'd say that we are probably in the lead for all of them except Tillman, who we will have a ton of competition for, but might be the best of the bunch.

CParso, Saban was all over the country offering recruits just like Miles is now. Heck, there are always at least 50 kids everybody pretty much offers. And I don't know how any of us can say right now we aren't offering top prospects since we don't know too much yet. And remember, Saban offered a few LA players early last year that weren't rated very high and they all accepted very early.

Like JV25 says, Miles is on to a lot of very good players. He has offered 2 guys that were hurt seriously last year in Murphy and Livingston and I'm guessing he has had a doctor look at them and given the green light. I'm also guessing he likes these 2 players one heck of a lot.

Philter has hit the nail on the head with his comments about the recruits really liking Les too. I think we are going to have a terrific clas in 2006. I wonder why Louisiana has produced so many great DLmen the past 3 years. Incredible talent.

Oh, one more thing. We should recruit a QB in every class. It's the most important position on the team and we never know how each p[layer will pan out, who will be hurt, who will transfer, who will have grade problems, etc.

I don't think we will necessarily offer all of those guys. Hollins I don't think the staff is looking at, and maybe not Shaw either and there is talk they are not 'blown away' by Washington. I think with Livingstong accepting, we may take 1 more...possibly two if Tillman decides to commit (his head coach says LSU is in fact leading at this time on TigerBait).

This is an old thread from 2005. But I thought I had to point this post out when I read it.

We miss NoLimit's seemingly infinite wisdom.

Nice initial post by Parso also. Look at where we are nationally in recruiting now. Big difference.
