Chris Keys is a safety who committed to Nick Saban and the Tigers in March of 2004 as a junior at Port Barre HS (Port Barre, LA). Keys later got into some trouble at the school and decided to get away from those problems there by moving to Stevenson, AL and enrolling at North Jackson HS while living with blue chip athlete Ali Sharrief and his family. Sharrief has since committed to Auburn. On August 2 the Alabama High School Athletic Association ruled Keys ineligble because he left Port Barre HS on bad terms from a discipline standpoint. Keys has since filed a suit to play for North Jackson this year, but is still waiting for any sort of judgment. Keys is a big safety and is listed at 6'2", 210 lbs, with a 4.5 forty. On tape one thing is evident, Keys can lay the lumber to offensive players. Keys does not shy away from contact and is also great in run support. Keys shows good range at the safety position and has good hands for a defensive back. Keys is athletic once he has the ball and does a good job on both kickoff and punt returns. Keys has also played at quarterback and wide receiver in high school and has excelled at both positions. Keys should be another great defensive back that we as Tiger fans should be excited to get to see once Nick gets his hands on Chris. One thing that the Tigers are missing is that big physical safety who is able to knock receivers down as they come across the middle. Well Tiger fans, meet Chris Keys.
