A quick comparison of our OUTSTANDING classes of the last two years: 2003 QB 2 (Russell,Flynn) RB 4 (Vincent, Broussard, Edwards, Jordan) OL 2 (Arnold, Sevin) TE 1 (Zinger) WR 3 (Bowe, Davis, Hill) DT 2 (Stewart, Carter) DE 3 (Cooper, Pittman, Merrill) LB 2 (Hollis, Ingram) DB 6 (Landry, Daniels, Child, Francis, Zenon,DJohnson) K 2 (CJackson, Fisher) 2004 QB 0 RB 1 (Hester) OL 4 (HJohnson, Miller, Helms, Holmes) TE 3 (Cole, Jones, Zimmermann) WR 3 (Doucet, Carter, Hawkins) DT 3 (Wroten, Dorsey, Favorite) DE 4 (Alexander, TJohnson, TJackson, Washington) LB 6 (Sanders, Kuale, Stoltz, QJohnson, Coleman, Highsmith) DB 5 (Steltz, Jack, CJackson, Stevenson, Taylor) K 0? (**Dalfrey to walkon) Totals 2003=27*, 2004=29 (*2003 not counting Washington's original commit) Offense 2003=12, 2004=11 Defense 2003=15, 2004=18 2003 fumbles: 2 (DJohnson, TWashington) fumbles lost: 1 (DJohnson resigned w/ Southern) 2004 potential fumbles??: 2?? (possibly Hawkins?? & Coleman??) personally, I prefer the 2003 class just because of the overall balance offense/defense and we got quality at every single position possible!! but IMO the overall potential superstars is about even from both classes and that list is long! note1: in a couple years, half of our defense will be overrun w/ Johnson(s), Jack/Jackson(s), Steltz & Stoltz. (this isn't necessarily who I think will be starting, but I think it's funny with all the similar names, the announcers will be pulling their hair out!) note2: also keep an eye on Anthony Boudreaux, OL from Chalmette who LSU placed in JUCO (Dodge City, where Kuale came from) the 2004 class is just a few hours old, but I can hardly wait for 2005!! we want Perilloux! (gotta keep those Longhorns away!)
Don't forget that Brad West also came on board last year, and I thought he looked pretty good even though he had been playing baseball and not football for at least three years. All in all, this recruiting class might even be deeper and better than last year's and that is really saying something since last year's class was pretty outstanding. For instance, last year we signed Hill, Bowe and Davis at WR--probably the best class of WR ever in LSU history. This year we got Doucet, Carter and Hawkins, who may even be better. The depth throughout the defense is much improved with this class. The ONLY negative is that we did not sign a QB, and that was not the fault of the coaches since they had every reason to think that Patrick White was coming to LSU. We will just have to sign 2-3 high quality QB's next year.
quarterback regarding QB, there are still stories that Jordan Reever may walk on. with Pat White not signing, that may be more likely now??
We just need to make sure we get a QB or 2 next year. We should be ok with 3 QBs this year. Doucet can play QB if necessary. What I like about this year's class besides the obvious WR pickups, is the lineman we got (both sides of the ball). There were 10 in all (4 offense and 6 defense), which is what Saban said was their goal. All 3 DTs appear to be absolute studs. The 3 DEs were all ranked in the top 15 as well. Seems like there won't be much running on this team for the forseeable future. And I definitely do not want to be a QB in the SEC right now (except LSU).
I think Ryan Perriloux is a must for next year. I think he is pretty much a lock for LSU. But you never know till they sign.
Rivals says Texas is the leader for Perrilloux now. I have also heard that his grades are pretty bad and that his chances of qualifying academically are not very good if he does not get serious in the classroom. The coaching staff may need to look out of state to find what we need at QB. It is hard to imagine having too much difficulty interesting a great high school QB or two into coming to a place where they will be able to throw to Doucet, Carter, Hill, Bowe, and Davis at WR and also have the nation's best defensive team to get them the ball back quickly.
Those rumors about Perriloux's grades are supposed to be bogus. He is supposed to be pretty good in the classroom. We want you Ryan!!
Remember that the article in rivals was written by the U of Texas outlet, kind of like if Tigar Rag or Tiger Bait wrote it I would think they would be listing LSU as the favorite.
2003/2004 starting lineup here's my version of a starting lineup from the 2003 & 2004 classes: Offense QB Russell RB Vincent WR Doucet WR Hill WR Carter TE Zinger OL Miller OL Johnson OL Sevin OL Arnold OL Helms Defense DE Pittman DL Favorite DL Wroten DE Merrill LB Sanders LB Stoltz LB Highsmith CB Stevenson CB Child S Landry S Steltz what would you change?? what do you think of that team in 2 years????
