AP? Aren't those the guys that made us take a split championship in 2003 because USC passed the "eye test?" Again, you are basing your opinion on perception. Reality: Alabama's strength of schedule: 42 Oklahoma St.: 7 Based on the BCS polls, which include computers that don't begin their ratings by assuming Alabama is the best, but only rate what happens on the field where it matters, OSU has played, and beaten more ranked opponents than 'Bama. The pre-conceived notion that Bama must be in the CG because they are better comes from the same line of thinking that says Saban must be a better coach than Miles, even though :milesmic: keeps proving otherwise where it matters, on the field of play.
Perception MUST be included in determining schedule of strength. Does the computer know the difference between a 9-3 WAC team vs a 9-3 SEC team? Based on the BCS polls, Bama is ranked higher in the computer rankings 0.950 to .930 It's not preconceived. LSU and Bama were 1A & 1B until our matchup and they lost in OT. Okie State should not be let free based on their massive CHOKE against ISU. That is why you see Bama drop very minimally and Okie State moreso.
Presumably. I can take out pencil and paper and add up the records of both team's opponents. I would expect a computer's rating to be a little more in-depth than that. Based on an incomplete schedule though. OSU still has to play against 9-2 and currently 10th ranked Oklahoma. Certainly that game will boost their rating if they win. Enough to pass by Bama? Stay tuned. Bama dropped one spot after losing to LSU. OSU dropped two spots after losing to Iowa St. Not a very substantial difference. Contrast that to 2007, when LSU dropped 7 spots after losing in OT at home to an unranked Arkansas club. At least OSU lost on the road. Our 2007 club, by the way, lost to two unranked opponents. Did you feel that made them unworthy to play for the title?
Well, they know the difference between a 9-2 Sun Belt (Arkansas State, 33 avg. computer) and a 10-2 SEC (Arkansas, 6.5 avg. computer).
I'm not sure how the computers do it but I know they do add up records. True, but last time we counted on OSU to win out, they blew it. This is all moot if they lose. Maybe we should wait until next week to argue this.... Kentucky was #17 when we played them. And there were so many other factors that we had goin for us against other opponents. We beat down VT (Eliminated VT), SEC champs (eliminated UGA), etc. We were the consensus #2 team taking the entire season into account. I think we need to clarify that I'm not saying Bama has the toughest schedule, I'm saying they are the #2 team based on wins AND losses.
