Mods, please move this or merge or whatever needs to be done if it is not thread worthy, just wanted to talk about the quarterback situation a bit. Seems like, from what I've seen (we don't get a ton of LSU games up here in Columbus), that RP often comes in mid series, for situations. He's obviously capable and talented (playing very well in the SEC championship game). My question is whether you think he will play in the same capacity or trade series with Flynn. In the past, Tressel has had a couple of years where we went with the two headed QB, and almost always traded series. Also, I know that Miles is very close to the vest about injuries, any word on Flynn's shoulder?
You are a good rival poster and I hope you stick around after the game either way! About the qb situation. I think rp will see some playing time, I do not think it will be an ever other series thing though. Flynns shoulder should be ok to play as far as I have heard! Rp is sure capable but probably needs some maturing at the leadership position, which I think he will get.
It was mostly situations that he came in. Some personal issues with RP and playclock caused them to stop rotating towards the end of the season. Miles might change up how he does it for the bowl game. As for Flynn, the best we can tell you is don't believe anything you hear coming out officially from the LSU camp. But I have a hunch that he is better off than most think and what some are letting on. Either way we will be ready to go with whoever is playing.
I agree with OT about how RP will be used, and I also believe Flynn will be fine. He'll get the lion's share of the reps, but I would expect RP to come in and run the option and also fake an option and throw the long pass in some key situations. By the way, how did LSU not get on TV much in Columbus? According to my calculations, Mississippi State, Va. Tech, South Carolina, Tulane, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and the SECCG were all on national TV.
During the season when both QBs were playing, RP would mainly come into 2nd and short or 3rd and short situations (less than 7 yards to go). He would mainly run the option. But with his success against an SEC caliber defense under his belt now (Tennessee), I really believe the coaches will have in there ready to throw or pass and with the real possibilty of doing either on any particular play. That will make RP that much harder to defend. Advantage LSU.
The more we keep Oh St. guessing the better off we are. With his recent success, I believe it will be a mystery to Oh St what will come. Because both can run and pass. RP with the better arm and Flynn with the better decision making. You just dont know what to plan for.
Perhaps I just missed a lot of these...not sure. I work in a restaurant and saturdays are usually kinda crazy, so i don't get to watch a ton of games live, with the exception of buckeye games...though we did get to watch the auburn, ark, and tulane, as well as the SECCG.
In my humble opinion, I don't think we have a "true" two QB system. RP calls the plays in certain situations, but I wonder sometimes if thats not merely a way to give Matt a breather and let him see the field from a different angle. In my playbook a true dual QB system has them splitting the time behind center. That being the case, thats not exactly what we have. :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
I agree that we didn't really have a "two QB" system. I've felt all year that Miles was getting RP some reps in real game time (not mop-up duty) to prepare him as our starter next year.
