I've tailgated at Tiger Stadium before and watched the game on tv from outside... but Friday evening a friend was given 2 free tickets, so we drove down yesterday morning. And got a speeding ticket around 30 minutes from I-10. Although we lost (which was a bummer) my first experience in Death Valley was a great one. I got a ton of great pictures, met a ton of cool fans and tailgaters... and got to experience an LSU game IN Tiger Stadium. We were in the East Upper Deck and noticed a huge empting of the stadium when it was obvious LSU was going to lose... but non the less we stayed and cheered and lived up the experience well after the clock ran out. Regardless of the outcome of the game, it will be one of the best memories I keep with me... nothing like imo and i'll definately be going back for more.
I'm glad you had a good time. To bad the final score sucked on your first trip down. Buy a radar detector...
Yeah might have to look into one of those. But the score didn't bother me anymore than it would have watching the game on tv. Don't get me wrong i'm a die hard LSU fan and hate to see them lose... but being a part of the LSU campus and Tiger Stadium atmosphere on game day is a much bigger part of being a fan then the final outcome. I had a great time depsite the loss, and plan to make many more trips next season... just hard to do when you're 4 hours north... no way in h3ll I was going to leave before the game ended.
4 Hours.....wow I remeber when it was a 6 Hour trip from Baton Rouge to Sheverport.....well that was back in the 70's.........
LOL, yeah the 70mph speed limit and the fact I-49 is a straight down shot to I-10... brings it to around 4 hours if you're following the speed limit and traffic considerations... but my 80mph + driving got us there in about 3.5 hours with a ticket.
I agree 100%. I've been present at many loses in TS but was always thankful for the opportunity to be on campus with good friends..good food..and good times. Watch out...you might get hooked like the rest of us. You'll soon go into debt each year just for tailgating. You'll start scheduling every other part of your life around LSU games. You may learn that it is possible to go two days without sleep just to see LSU play on the road. On a bad note though...Some of the fans in TS are getting on my last nerve. We (as a family) have been going to the games since the 80's. It quickly became our favorite pass time. Never miss a home game and try to make at least two away games a year...whether the team was playing good or not. But...starting last year and into this year...I've seen a change in the way people act in TS. Again, I have a lot of history in the South End Zone..been in the same spot for years. We have dozens of friends there. Never...and I mean NEVER...has there been a problem before last year. I actually got into a stinking fight at the Arkansas game last year because some idiot, who I've never seen up there before, started insulting my sister-in-law. I had no choice but to fight that day...I hate like hell that it happened. The guy and his buddy were arrested...(which they deserved)...and I admit it was a little fun to put some lumps on him...but damn, I wish it would not have happened. Yesterday...A guy sitting behind me was using profanity every other word and loud enough for everyone sitting within two sections to hear. The guy was drunk, of course, but that's no excuse...there have been games where I was barely able to walk into the stadium but would never dream of acting like some do lately. So anyway...I told the guy to shut up...there were several kids sitting around us. Luckily my son and daughter were not present (it will be a while before I bring them in the stadium again...it is not family friendly anymore). The idiot had two friends with him...no big deal, I'm sure I could take all three (plus I had Crip sitting next to me :grin...and he wanted to argue about it a little. I did something out of character and walked up to him and explained in a "nice" way why he should watch his language (I really don't want to have fight again in TS...once was enough and if it comes to that again I'll probably stop going). That put an end to the problem but it never should have been a problem to begin with. I don't know...it just isn't the same anymore. People have changed.
Oh I agree. There was a guy in the deck right above us that started insulting and cussing Ole Miss fans more so than the regular ribbing. Started making threats to them so the Ole Miss fans just got up and left. Can't say I blame them but they should never of had to leave their seats. I walked away with more positives then negatives yesterday, and I just feel lucky I had the opportunity to go see my favorite team play in person. I've lived all over the country being a Tiger Fan... mainly in Big 10'homerville and wasn't able to get much of the Tiger games on tv... so I feel lucky living here now where if I cant make it down I can atleast watch them every week. But you're right, LOL, I did get hooked on the stadium atmosphere and will be going to plenty more. Gonna try and get better seats the next time though.
It's an attitude that we are somehow entitled to be champions every year and some people forget(or never knew) that an LSU game in TS is an event that's supposed to be appreciated. Too many people these days think it's all about them and if they're not happy then no one will be happy. You should have let Crip do the "splainin'".
wait, thats not normal behavior? or going for two days without sleep to see lsu play at home? i got really lucky as far as tickets (or lack of) this year. on the way down to the app state game, i got pulled over two hours from home on the turnpike in oklahoma. i dont know if it was the innocent blonde look, or that the state trooper thought i was crazy when he found out i was headed to a place that everyone was supposed to be evacuating from, but i only got a warning. this morning on my way home, i was following a friend who lives in shreveport since they were driving alone also, then went on my way from there. around mansfield, we topped a hill to find three local law enforcement in the median clocking people. considering we had both been passing everyone, we got really lucky. someone was coming up behind me going faster, so he drew the cop that was going after people north bound. still made in in 8.75 hours. maybe i should invest in a radar detector before next season.....
These people causing problems are not Tiger fans. They are FANS OF THEMSELVES. It's all about them, not LSU or the other fans. A true fan does all he/she can to make people respect LSU. All these folks do is make us look like trash to the rest of the country. I'll bet if you catch them in everyday life situations, such as at work or school, they are just as obnoxious. Some people never do grow up. It's a damn shame they have to ruin it for everyone else.
